So I was installing Jet Set Radio in Steam, I think its an old Sega thats been polished a bit. For some reason I waited for the EULA to load. And this is what greeted me:

"THIS SOFTWARE IS LICENSED, NOT SOLD.
BY INSTALLING, COPYING AND/OR OTHERWISE USING THIS GAME SOFTWARE, YOU AGREE TO BE BOUND BY THE TERMS OF THIS AGREEMENT AND THE TERMS SET FORTH BELOW.
BY OPENING THE GAME SOFTWARE, INSTALLING, AND/OR USING THE GAME SOFTWARE AND ANY OTHER MATERIALS INCLUDED WITH THE GAME SOFTWARE, AND ANY UPDATES AND UPGRADES THERETO, YOU HEREBY ACCEPT THE TERMS OF THIS AGREEMENT WITH SEGA.
IF YOU DO NOT AGREE TO THE TERMS OF THIS AGREEMENT, YOU ARE NOT PERMITTED TO INSTALL, COPY OR OTHERWISE USE THE GAME SOFTWARE. YOUR REMEDY FOR DISSATISFACTION WITH THE GAME SOFTWARE OR ANY PRODUCTS, CONTENT, OR OTHER INFORMATION MADE AVAILABLE BY OR THROUGH SEGA, IS TO STOP USING THE GAME SOFTWARE.
SEGA hereby grants you a non-exclusive, non-transferable, limited right and license to install and use one (1) copy of the Game Software solely and exclusively for your personal and non-commercial use.
NO RIGHT TO OWNERSHIP: YOU ACKNOWLEDGE AND AGREE THAT YOU SHALL HAVE NO OWNERSHIP OR OTHER PROPERTY INTEREST IN THE GAME SOFTWARE, AND YOU FURTHER ACKNOWLEDGE AND AGREE THAT ALL SUCH RIGHTS ARE AND SHALL FOREVER BE OWNED BY AND INURE TO THE BENEFIT OF SEGA.

Isn't this kinda like "fuck you"?
What does that have to do with DRM?
EA says it the loudest in their EULA that you just are borrowing a license and don't own it at all whatsoever

Its not really enforced by anyone and its mostly to cover their own ass if something happens and the game is unavailable to those who bought it.

Small chance, but its a possibility that tons of games will not be available to the purchasers in the future. Shit happens, companies go under.
This has been the norm in PC gaming for ages.

Really? Hmmm... this was the first EULA that I decided to read.
And again I say its not like they are as much denying you rights to owning the game but are protecting themselves in case the game is no longer available to even those who have paid for it. Best ways to fight it are:

1. Get it on GOG first and foremost, since they are already in neat install files and can be stored quite easily. Humble Bundle purchases are even better sometimes since most of the games can be played without installing when you download it.

2. BACKUP YOUR GAMES. Get a external Hard Drive or two, maybe three over time lol

3. Steam is hard to work this way, but you CAN back up your games on there with a CD or drive.

4. DRM Free Steam Games can be simply copied out of their directories and are like Humble Bundle downloads that way

it is pretty standard disclaimer. Now read EULA's of games sold here.

You always buy a license, no matter where you buy the game. and EULA's have nothing to do with DRM.

Oh I see, so it's the license you were worried about. Yeah, videogames were always licensed, they were never sold per se.

Yup, pretty much. If you want to back up, finding a crack is exceptionally easy these days.

Wow sega has really gone down the dark path with terrible DRM. This is why I will forever hold onto my console games without this crap that companies want to control and cripple PC versions. I do feel bad for those go the legit route of getting some great classic games with horrible DRM of extremely limited installs =(

Oh yeah one more thing Jet Set Radio is super awesome. The dreamcast had some awesome games like JSR and Shenmue ^_^

Just wanted to edit. Best way to go about is just to get a Dreamcast, used, don't know the going price, can't be too much. And then get the CD game, can't be too much maybe. Problem solved.

Sega has released their greatest Dreamcast games on Steam. Got Sonic Adventure 1 & 2, Sega Bass Fishing, Crazy Taxi, Space Channel 2, and of course Jet Set Radio.

I want Shenmue on here but don't think they will. Also The Gamecube Battle additions to Sonic Adventure 2 is DLC, but I got it in a Sonic Hits bundle that sold every single Steam Sonic game for about 7 dollars. Sega games are notoriously expensive on PC but they do have sales alot

I'm not too much a sonic fan, although I have a few sonic games. I'm very happy I kept my Dreamcast and Gamecube. They really did have some good games for them back then. ^_^
- "Yes, I finally bought the car! Just in time for the holiday."
- "No sir, you only bought the license to use it from your current home to the registered workplace."
- "Wait whaat? Isn't that a (shitty) rental?"
- "No, please read the contract."
- "This isn't fair, I don't want it anymore."
- "Sorry, it's all legal and you have already accepted."
- "..but this is even full price!" :'(
- "Sorry sir" (trololol!) XD

It's illegal in Germany because it isn't told prior to purchase.
So here you can just ignore the EULA.

This and the whole nature of digital goods is why I don't weep for big companies and piracy.

This is a perfect commodity for them, its completely renewable, never will run out, keep charging what you want, and even say you don't own it

They get their money in the end, at least most indie devs have real humility and sell their games for pennies on the dollar for charity on Humble Bundle regularly

Yeah, this line sounds pretty cheeky for a EULA; other than that nothing out of the ordinary, I fear.
