Hello there ! I will soon get my new CPU and mobo, and will format my computer. I'll reinstall Windows 7 x64, and i was wondering if i should install SP1. I heard reports of SP1 slowing down machines, but in my case, it will be on a fresh install.

To sumarize :

- Should I install SP1 on my fresh Win7 install or just skip it ?

- Are there any incompatibility with games ? GOG and recent games ?

- Have you installed SP1 and what was your experience. Was it on fresh system install or not ?

Thank you very much ! :)
Of course you should install it. I've never seen any difference in speed and improved security would be worth it. With a NEW PC you'd never notice the difference (if any)

I'm pretty sure it will be OK, performance wise and on fresh install, but what of game compatibility. Anyone had problems ? On games like BFBC2, Witcher, Dragon age, GTAIV... and some older GOGs ?
Haven't noticed any issues - I'm pretty sure SP1 is basically just all the previous patches put together.
Install that damn SP1, definitely :-P

I've never experienced any single compatibility issue with "service-packed" Windows versions, anyway. I think it's just a myth :-P

It pretty much is hell the Vista ones actually IMPROVED compatibility
Don't have any problems with service pack 1 :)
There is no reason to my knowledge not to install SP1. The only little problem I had is when upgrading my Windows 7 Starter with SP1 to Windows 7 Home Premium, there was a little error in the process. It still worked despite the error but it is probably better to upgrade a Windows version before installing the Service Pack. I hope what I say is clear ;)
Thank you all for your time. I think i'll install SP1 on the fresh Windows 7 when i get my new hardware. Sorry for not putting the thread as question. You all deserve +rep ;)
