The GoG forums are a great place to talk to other gamers about all kinds of things but one problem I haven't found a solution to yet is how to quote another poster correctly. Let me clarify:

If I want to quote the entire post of someone that's easy since you just click the quote button. My problem is when I only want to quote specific lines of text within someone's post. I can't for the life of me figure out how to do this without getting an error message when I try it. So how do I only quote specific parts of someone elses post?

Also I have seem some posters respond by quoting an entire post but by using the username and then "snip" - if you could tell me how this is done I would very much appreciate it.

The point here is that most of the time I don't want to quote an entire post from someone but only the few lines/sentences that deal with the topic I respond to. Thank you.

Use (quote_#) text (/quote) where # is the post you want to quote and instead of () use []. You can also use (quote)text(/quote) to add a quote without a post number.

Examples.

The easiest way for me is to hit "reply" and then highlight the text I don't want and delete it. As illustrated above; I just deleted random text from your post and left other stuff.

snip
The easiest way, as DieRuhe said, is:
1. Hit the reply button.
2. In the window that opens, select the part(s) of the text you don't want to keep in your quote and delete it.
3. Be careful not to mess with syntax of quoting.
That way, only the specific parts of someone's post will appear in your quote.

You go about it the exact same way as I described above, but instead of deleting the selected text you replace it by typing "snip" - easy as that. ;D

You could practice by trying these suggestions in this thread.

jepsen1977: The GoG forums are a horrible place to talk, full of losers talking about all kinds of irrelevant things, but one problem - I do not want to quote correctly. Let me clarify:

Other peoples meaning are worthless, and I want to change them into mine. So how do I delete and change parts of someone elses post?

Sometimes, they are so worthless I just want "snip" - if you could tell me how this is done I would very much appreciate it.

The point here is that most of the time I don't want to quote losers but only the few lines/sentences that deal with the topic I think is valid. Drop dead
the power.... THE POWER..... MUWAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAAHHAHAHAHAHAH

(just edit and delete when you quote. to snip, just delete everything and replace with the word snip)

edit - yes, I am very immature today.

You can also use Barefoot's script to help you with formating, as it will give you a live preview before you post.
And make sure that you don't lose one of the opening or closing square brackets, as the forum software will just leave you stuck there for all eternity without actually posting or giving you an error to work with.

I do this as well.

This is so annoying but with Barefoot's script it warns you, at least if you use quick post.

So what you are saying is that I should be careful not to loose any [ ] ? :-)

What happens when inserting text here?

Lets see what happens.

Okay guys with the risk of spamming my own thread here let me just say thanks to all for your help and I think I understand the idea of quoting now. You all got a +1 from me. Thanks so much!
