I feel like GOG community is quite hostile towards newbies. I myself am new, and just looking here, it scares me.
Are you the scammer from earlier ? If you are - tough. If you're not - just don't be a leech, and you'll be fine .

Why would you say that ? This is one of the nicest place possible (in the "filled with random people" category).
Proof is :
Welcome to you, I hope you will have your fun around here.

(but still .... what made you think we were mainly elitist basterds ?)

Edit : your thread title is poorly chosen if you want my opinion.

I have never before heard anyone say that the GOG community is hostile to newbies.

Just... How?
Actually, the GOG community is one of the most generous and friendly I've ever seen on the net (and I've been around quite a bit). However, we recently had an infestation with people who never actually wanted to become part of this community, but just saw it as a means to exploit others' generosity and grab some free games.

Newbies are still welcomed with open arms, but should probably refrain from begging for games, at least until they've got a standing and/or have shown genuine interest in the community.
yes just awful....
love this place, everyone has been super nice and helpful in my few weeks here.

Hi there. What brings you to GOG? And what specifically scared you?
Unless you beg for games, start controversial topics, complain about rep, or just generally behave like an asshole towards people, you'll be fine, really.
Show us a quote from someone being mean to you. If I have to I'll drag the guy out back and beat the shit out him and I will no doubt have plenty of help because we pride ourselves on being open and inviting and that's no bullshit.

Everyone of us was new here once and, with the exception of Licurg who seems to enjoy being yelled at, we have all stuck around because of how friendly it is.
Honestly the GOG forums are the nicest corner of the internet I've been able to find, especially as a place where one can engage in all kinds of topics. Community-wise the GOG forums are leagues ahead of any other gaming forum I have ever had the pleasure to visit. Don't be scared, come on in! Poke around, post a little, have fun, that's all we're here for. And for the games of course.

FYI, not really a recent phenomena but one that's being noticed a bit more nowadays.

To be fair the Insomnia sales have a tendency to spike leechers' attention (both making leechers multiply, and making them more obvious), and we did just have one.

We have scammer issues, so people will be forced to look at you sideways for a while. Do anything suspicious and the hammer will come down. Its harsh, but just the way things are right now.
