So, who's heard of this game before E3? This was the first time I got to see the trailer!

Short wiki summary:
Announced at VGX 2013 alongside a trailer, the game is seen to feature planetary exploration, deep oceans, space-based battles, and potential predators on the various procedurally-generated worlds. Each world has its own ecosystem with potentially unforgiving conditions, such as desert worlds with large carnivorous worms.

This is the gameplay trailer!.
Here's Hello Games' founder talking about the game!
Some IGN talk about the tech - though they're only wondering about it, no real info :D
Some more planets!!
And here's an E3 gamespot interview with Murray!

Hell, this looks great! Reminds me of Planets Explorer, which I've backed on KS, only in waaaaaay bigger!
I had, looks amazing - did E3 give any indication if it's still console only? Or if it ever was?
I heard about it last December, a few weeks shy of when the dev's offices got flooded.

News I've heard is that it is coming to PC as well as the PS4, but it'll take me a while to dig that back up and I should have headed down to help my husband with dinner five minutes ago.
It was announced during VGX last year, IIRC. I heard the studio suffered a flood at some point, they almost lost all the work.

Anyway, it looks amazing everytime. Hope it does not end up being a case of "too good to be true".
Yeah, it does look amazing. Definitely could be a SPORE killer... as if Spore needed killing.

Still, its scope seems almost too large. I hope it focuses more on exploration and science than spaceship-go-boom, like so many sci-fi games.
Looks nice, but who knows if it will play nice. Whenever I hear "procedural generation" I just think of Daggerfall, what's to stop the whole world (or region of space I guess in this game) from being just a bland featureless mass of nothingness with the same environmental assets everywhere, so every planet "type" is just a rearranged version of another. (Note I'm talking about DF's wilderness, not towns)

Procedural generation is an awesome tool, but you still need good content.

Does this game do anything exception basic movement and going in a space ship? Can you build anything, can you shoot and kill the wildlife, is there NPCs to talk to? It looks good but that would probably wear off quick if there's nothing to do except just "explore".

There was an indie game that came out a while back... I think it's still in Alpha. It's called 'Species' and is a Spore, No man's sky type of game. You can create primitive lifeforms on alien worlds and watch them evolve. It's pretty simplistic and low budget, but it's a fun game and it has great potential. It's really cool to build a worm thing that swims in water, and watch it evolve legs and move onto land as the planet and eco system change. I really hope NMS has that type of game play in it.

Here's a link to Species... will keep ya occupied until NMS is released.

Also heard it should come out for PC!

I'll be checking Species out!

Crosmando: Yeah, there's ground combat, as well as space combat. You can go around categorizing stuff.
And you're worries are legit, of course, that's why I hope this is going to be good and not only...meh.
RPS artcile (where I read the info that a PC version is likely to appear).

Info on the office floods for anyone's interest.

As for how the whole procedural generation stuff works, we have no real idea beyond the vids already shown.
Is that the one that put out a cool trailer years ago where they went from space to a planet to underwater and then never released any more information?
I am seriously surprised no one made the obvious "you can't take the sky from meee..." joke. Eh I'm such a Firefly fanboy, lol, that was the first thing that came to mind when I saw the thread and game title. On a serious note, this looks fun, I think if I am able to play it I'm going to give it a go when it gets released. Thank you for posting and letting people who may not have heard of this have a chance to check it out. :)
This is the game that made me want a PS4
It looks truly amazing. That and a suda51 exclusive makes me wish for a PS4 in the future:)
Sorry to be the voice of doom here, but am I the only one who thinks this looks way to good to be true?
Daikatana, Fable, Liar, Spore, Mass effect 3, Watch_Dogs. What do these games have in common> They all promised to be the OMG best game of all time. And when it came to pass shock of all shocks, they weren't. Some we're okay when you look past the hype, and some were garbage.
This game is promising way too much. It might be good but I don't buy that this will be the Terraria/Morrowind hybrid people want it to be. Triple A games still have trouble making toilets that curve properly. How they are going to get this to work as good as they say it will I don't know.
We haven't been promised that much, though. Just total freedom. So it's more like what we'd like to see at the moment.
