I was interested in Original War but like many, not for the regular price here, and also didn't want to get it at the current sale price on Steam as it just feels dirty under the circumstances... so I decided I would let it pass and hope that it return here again some time in the future, perhaps if Bohemia embraces GOG Galaxy or somesuch at a later date. But I woke up today to find that another overly generous community member gifted me the game in my sleep! Many thanks to jedi5002 for that!

I was eager to install it and try it out right away but like others have reported it is not showing up in the GOGalogue at the moment so I might have to wait a few days for the website to get sorted out perhaps. :)

synfresh: ... I disagree, just because GoG is getting an optional client doesn't mean it matches the same features that Steam has. You're forgetting Workshop, Greenlight, Marketplace, Achievements, etc., plus the multitude of tools that Steam provides to devs/publishers. You may not value any of these things but as far as the digital market is concerned, many do. Devs also put a certain value on Steamworks as well.
That's why I wrote roughly on par. I have not enough insight into the details to judge it better. Although I remember that Galaxy was supossed to also contain achievements and greenlight was to be phased out by Valve. I also hope that GOG is smart enough to make an interface available to developers to easier integrate with the Galaxy thing like Steam does. When the Galaxy thing is out we can probably better decide what is left if any and weigh it with the DRM.

The main point I wanted to get through is that with Linux support and a client GOG is closing most if not all of the distance to Steam (compared to what they had before) but since they do it so late one shouldn't really complain (from the side of GOG) about Steam already having close to a monopoly.

ktchong: If Bohemia left because of the lack of client and multiplayer support, hopefully GOG will resolve the issue with the upcoming Galaxy client and bring back publishers/developers who have left.
Unfortunately I doubt it. Those who join the dark side never come back, ...never.
