Checked my email last night to find I had a shiny beta key slipped in there. The game seems to have all its functionality in place, but still needs a lot of the level content fleshed out. All the towers are in, and gameplay wise feels like the same game.
There is the addition of the boosters which you can build on a space before placing a tower on it. They are fairly inexpensive and can be used for mazing if you don't need a full on tower to block a zone.
The graphic fidelity looks greater, but I had to dial the quality back a bit on my laptop to get the frame rate up. It still looked better than the first game upon inspection, though it is very similar visually. They say they expect the performance to improve over the next couple of months which should make the game low spec system friendly.
So far I haven't had any technical issues, and I don't see anything going off in the wrong direction. The levels do have the build areas marked with these rounded boxes that look kind of cartoonish. I'm also not sure the wave warning system is what I want. It looks like it gives you some idea of what is coming in later waves, but by sacrificing somethings about the current one.
The key was from their Kickstarter a couple years back. It's taken a while to get DG2 going (they did DG:Containment first), but I'm kind of stoked I get a copy and to play test it, just because I tossed them a few bucks a while back. I think Hidden Path has done a good job of running the campaign, and I hope pays off for both them and us gamers.
