RWarehall: And what makes you think they didn't play it? If they know the file size, they have at least bought it.
Firstly, you've been a registered member of GoG.com since January 2012. That's over two years ago...

Please click on any random game and tell me what it says between "genre" and "avg. user rating".

Secondly, like I already mentioned in my second post, the people who reviewed those games clearly stated they never 1) bought those games and 2) never played those games.

tinyE: Cost per size.
That made John Holmes famous. :D
You keep channeling me lately. :P
I'm surprised the OP think that the relatively few negative reviews are worth talking about as skewing the score when a much more common "problem" is that many reviewers who admittedly do not own the game and are just rambling about their nostalgic memories from 7+ years ago handing out score of 5/5 arbitrarily.

I'll give a shout out to this because while I've never put up a review in here I've been VERY guilty of pushing a game for nostalgia only to go back and play it and realize, "This didn't age very well!"

Why is it surprising? Anything that causes illegitimate scoring should be brought up as feedback. I'm sure there must a handful more common problems with reviews that I may or may not be aware of. Alas, this is the issue that came up first when I experienced those kind of reviews.

If you feel there are other issues coinciding the legitimacy of reviews, surely, you would post your own feedback right?

I just thought the high scoring "I remember this game back when..." reviews were more obvious than the "The game is too expensive so I give it 1/5" reviews. The nostalgic 5/5 reviews are usually the focus in threads about the quality of in-store reviews, hence my surprise when this thread ignored them.

Ah okay I get it now. Thanks for the clarification.
I think anyone can use their own reasons for giving a game a score and other people are free to mark the review as helpful or not. However, I think the GOG reviews are pretty useless. Everything averages out to 4 stars, basically. What's needed is a way to find the reviewer that matches your own style that you can follow on their review through every game. I've seen way too many over-the-top excited 5-star reviews on GOG for an average or worse game.

Yeah, true. If the game is available at other places, I check reviews over there as well to get a less biased picture. Also, watching gameplay videos is really helpful, more so than reviews.

But whatever, people can mark those nostalgic reviews as unhelpful, and move on. What would be useful is being able to sort reviews by how they rated the game.
I vote with unanimous consent to never allow anyone to disagree with me again.

See how stupid that sounds? Has the entire internet been taken over by squabbling control freaks? Jesus Ketchup and fries Christ. A review is nothing more than some idiot's idiotic review. Read it, agree with it or not, and get on with your life. Have we become incapable of tolerating things that we find disagreeable? I don't know what they call that, but intolerance seems a fitting word.

First, what's with the name calling? Why are reviews considered an idiot's idiotic review?

Second, this IS NOT about disagreeing with someone's opinion. Whatever you're ranting about doesn't apply here because my thread isn't about whether I disagree with someone's opinion or not. My thread is about people making price comments in GoG's game review feature when they haven't even played the game yet.

Third, before I buy anything, I normally read reviews, watch Youtube videos and measure it with the price I want to spend. Many reviews on GoG are great. They list out game play mechanics, graphic fluidity, music and sound, voice overs and so on. A proper review, no matter how short or long will talk about the game's contents.

On the other hand, a review is NOT saying an item isn't worth the price of it because it's 50 MB's. That isn't a review.

"Shouldn't these scores/reviews be considered illegitimate since the reviews are for what the player feels about the game play factors?"

Who is going to consider those reviews illegitimate? You? Me? The GOG high supreme council? The Klingon High Command? And how do you know whether or not they've played the game before? And why do you care? And why do I care if you care? I don't. Why am I here? Who the goddamn hell knows. Bigger fish to fry, and I need tartar sauce!

Never cast your pearls among swine... especially when it's uncooked sausage.

I'll go with the klingon high command.
