Question is, if I upgrade to Enhanced Edition, will I lose my progress? Also, will I miss new content because it's an on-going game? Thanks for any help.

From what I understand, you can continue on with your saves (I didn't play after upgrading, but I fired up and old save and it loaded fine). I think some of the new content may be missed if you've progressed too far into the game.
While a number of people commented that using non EE versions of the game seem to work, a much larger number noted that a number of quests, events and conversations as well as fights appear bugged/unresolvable when triggered.

There has been a suggestion to do the transfer over at the end of the Act (any act) so you start a new act on a new EE build. However once again there is no consensus on this. So, from what I have read so far, using old save games for EE version should be done at your own risk and I am pretty darn sure that CDPR will not support the game under said conditions.

My last save I had before I updated the game to the EE version was at the beginning of Act:2 and it works perfectly fine for me, I had no bugs whatsoever after updating the game.

Finished it yesterday, no problems at all. So it works well for me at least.
I remember reading comments that Act 3 is very buggy if you have a save in it at the time of updating. So, like noted, saving before starting Act 3 is a must.
You can.... but there will be bugs. (serious face)
