matj1 The wish to release GOG Galaxy on Linux is one of the most voted wishes. Now the developers probably focus more on Galaxy 2.0 so it's more likely that Galaxy 2.0 will be released on Linux than the original Galaxy.
Citizen_839X Honestly? It's 2024. Linux with Proton modules (Glorius Eggroll) via ProtonQt is a reality since the last three years. You are so lazy, still relying on Lutris via Wine bottles (the worst option nowadays) that it seems that a native client just like Valve made it, it's difficult to happen. And you aren't even named EA which is the worst of the worst in all Linux gamers black lists because their installer client is designed with ant-Linux flaws, deliberately made to be crapware. WTF guys, seriously.

Aerezoloh GoG Galaxy would certainly do wonders for Linux, especially as I have been wanting to move on over to Linux Mint fulltime myself and would love to have a client with the game I bought through such a wonderful platform.
DeliwewyMoogle +1 Have not been buying on GOG for this reason and will keep it that way. There is a Mac version (for whatever reason, like anyone played on Mac), so obviously Galaxy is developed with multi platform in mind.

patbuergi Playing GOG with linux support is usually extremely easy, but it lacks achievements and cloud sync, two vital features for a lot of gamers. It is true that it is quite easy to install GOG Galaxy via Lutris, one click to install and it works flawlessly. BUT it always uses the wine emulation layer even for games that have native linux support, which is such a pitty. Gaming on linux is increasing especially since the release of the Steamdeck. Please consider to release a native linux build, this is my number one wish of all wishes to GOG.

puzzleclocks For some difficult-to-troubleshoot reason, my Lutris doesn't like GOG so I would love a standalone GOG Galaxy launcher!
Shameless_W i would love a linux launcher, we need something to cover our cloud saves. While heroic kind of work, it's not permanent solution.
Dranoel Please add GOG Galaxy for us to play all the games on a Linux platform. I want to play World of Xeen (and others) while only using Mint Linux (Debian-based).

bb_matt So, releasing GOG Galaxy for Linux is really a moot point - there's no need to do it at all, as Steam compatibility handles everything mostly flawlessly, without needing to use any other emulation tools like Lutris.
I installed and ran witcher III using Gog Galaxy as effortlessly as doing it under windows.
It's also super trivial to just add the installed game to Steam, I just browsed to:
".steam/root/steamapps/compatdata/2365615429/pfx/drive_c/Program Files (x86)/GOG Galaxy/Games/The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt GOTY/bin/x64_dx12/witcher3.exe"
Fairly sure the game folder could be moved anywhere and ran too.
bb_matt Having said all of the below, I reckon you can completely ignore installing Gog Galaxy, which isn't very good anyway, and just download the game install files via your account.
Then use Steam compatibility to install them, then once installed, figure out where the game launchers are installed, add them, select compatibility, rename the shortcut, add icons etc. - job done.

So, installed two small games - Sid Meirs Pirates and Braid.
Both worked fine.
Exiting Braid resulted in Gog Galaxy graphical glitches after, quick restart, fine again.
Whether it can launch more modern titles, not sure - will try Witcher 3.
However, seems fairly obvious to me that once you've installed a game with Gog Galaxy, you could then add it to Steam as a "Non Steam Game" and launch from there instead.
Saves having to mess about with other options - I've tried Lutris in the past and whilst I'm amazed at the community effort behind it, I've found it to be not so nice to work with and very hit and miss.

It's TRIVIAL to install Gog Galaxy using Steam - and it works 100% - do the games installed via it work? No idea yet, will let you know or perhaps someone else can try...
Download the Gog Galaxy installer, then in Steam, Games -> Add Non-Steam game to my Library.
Select the installer file and add it.
Once added, ensure you set compatibility - find the installer in your library - just search for Gog, right click -> properties -> Compatability.
Check the box - same way you do for any game that requires it in steam for Linux.
Launch it. (hit Play)
It should install just fine and then launch, login - boom, done!
I did try and figure out exactly _where_ it installs the files, it's somewhere in ".steam/root/steamapps/compatdata/" - but I wasn't sure exactly what executable to try.
Anyway, I took a chance, exited Gog Galaxy and launched the installer again from Steam - it seems to be able to detect it's already installed and launches Gog Galaxy.
I'll admit, I have NO idea what will happen when a game is installed.
Going to try now, so still a few things to figure out, but heck, the GOG Galaxy client just _WORKS_ via steam perfectly - on my PC anyway, can't see why it won't work on any PC that can run Games under Steam for Linux.

Mr_Sinister It does work with wine seamlessly ztjuh. At least Linux Mint 21.3 with wine 9.0. Just today I wanted to try Gwent so I gave it a try and it worked out of the box through Galaxy. But the fact that I had to use Virtualbox with win guest system to even download the installer baffles me. I mean, I know it's not linux native but why make it so hard to even download it? Anyway, + 100 for linux native.
menerond Linux support alone would be awesome to access games running natively. Proton (or similar tool) integration to run Windows games under Linux would be amazing!

navy676aw Man it would awesome if they integrated with GloriousEggrolls new tool "ULWGL". This would make their job much easier and they could just do the GOG online stuff. We're getting close with tools like Comet but if they officially wrapped all this it would be amazing. I think a nice competitor to Steam for steam deck users would be fantastic!!

I wouldn't be so pessimistic linuxgamer1910 - there's already a lot of games with Linux installers when you download them directly from GOG, those with Linux support of course, but it shows that GOG cares a little and has a bit of experience.

But I doubt we will ever see official Galaxy support for Linux. There are open-source alternatives like Minigalaxy, Heroic, and Lutris that GOG could have supported by providing access to APIs, etc., to prevent the need for developing it themselves from scratch. The open-source community could have handled that for them, but unfortunately, GOG does not seem to be interested. As a result, I've lost faith, and this is one of the reasons why I haven't fully switched to GOG, to be honest. Steam remains my preferred Linux gaming store and platform because they offer 100% Linux support, whereas GOG provides only 10%.

a possible workaround with Steam and Heroic Games Launcher (HGL) :
you can install GOG Galaxy from Epic Store using HGL .
After that, in GOG Galaxy: Scan folders for GOG games previously installed with HGL.
In HGL you can add a game to Steam library and this generates a launch option in steam which can be used in GOG as an argument in GOG's game settings ui.
When you launch a game from GOG Galaxy this way it will synchronize saves and activity .. but i'm not sure about achivements
