Allow us to edit our reviews
I agree. I'm surprised there aren't more comments here about this one. Either editing a review could reset the rating (with a warning to the user that this will happen), or the user could have the choice to alternatively append a note to the review, which could also be rated separately (so the user isn't disincentivised from making updates and corrections).
A potentially big problem with the current approach for smaller games is that a highly rated review posted on day 1 might complain about a bug that would deter others from playing the game. Then the developer fixes the bug, but the review cannot be updated, so few others play the game, and it is even harder for customers to know that the issue is resolved.
There may also be less incentive for developers to fix bugs when they know that many won't notice and it won't equate to more sales.
yes, just remove peoples' rating after editing
The problem with editing reviews is that (as we have seen on Amazon) people can post a review saying one thing, get a bunch of people "upvoting" that review, and then totally alter the review. Say, go from saying "I love Avengers - Infinity War, and here's why" (getting upvotes from people who love the film) to "This movie sucks!" (keeping the original upvotes).
So, I'm not inclined to agree with "editing" of this sort unless they can establish oversite of the updated reviews (as well as the original ones).
A better idea is to (a) pay attention to what you write in the first place, and (b) allow APPENDING existing reviews (adding text, but not altering or removing it). I often do this to posts I make... see the below for an example:
EDIT: I think the above is very true, even today.
See how that works?
I have a number of first-page reviews with completely broken formatting, and one with a major error (fortunately, now corrected by every other review on page 1); I would love to fix these mistakes!
Seriously, I'd love to edit a bad vote for a buggy version of a game that gets fixed later.
This. We also need the option to change a vote we have already given to a review.
