I first saw this game in a PC game store back when those still existed. It caught my attention, and I hid it at the back of the shelf so I could buy it the next day. This game became a big part of my childhood. Today, I’m 38, and my sister and I used to love playing it. It’s a mix of strategy and city simulation. Characters have children, and you assign them roles within the city. Managing resources is key—if there’s no food, people starve; if there are no priests to bury the dead, plagues spread. You can appoint a tax collector to increase revenue, but high taxes may lead to crime, requiring an executioner to maintain order. The missions are diverse and engaging. One requires retrieving a relic and defeating a vampire, another involves escorting a sacred cow to a specific location, and another challenges you to prepare your city against an incoming giant invasion. The game constantly tests your strategic thinking while keeping things fresh. I believe more people would love this game if they tried it. A little-known fact is that Raphael Colantonio, creator of Dishonored and Prey, worked on it early in his career. This game holds a special place in my heart, not just for the gameplay but for the nostalgia and memories. Even after all these years, I still think it’s a masterpiece that deserves more recognition, and I would instantly buy it if GOG made it playable today.

Love this game so much. It's not perfect, but the charm and mysterious atmosphere is so strong here. Overall the production quality is pretty high, never had any technical issues, looks great and the music is fantastic.
It was one of the very first video games I owned. Played it so much. And then again way later when I got older. I remember my sister playing it tons as well. She was just playing the same levels over and over again, spamming chicken coops and loved to build the whole map full. Megatowns!

It's educational and also its one of the first games that lets me manage a medieval town with seasons too. Come on GOG lets get this game playable soon.

Arc the Lad II
Arc the Lad IIThis direct sequel to "Arc the Lad" continues the unfinished story of the first game, but starts from a totally different perspective. You control a bounty-hunter named Elk, who suffers from amnesia. On his quest for his own true identity he discovers the powers hidden within him, and the destiny of his entire tribe. While pursuing his archenemy, Elk meets up with Arc, the hero of the first game, and then both realize they have been looking to destroy the very same evil. The battle system of "Arc the Lad II" is similar to the one used in its predecessor: in battles you can move your characters on the battle field, and your proximity to the enemies plays an important role. You cause and take different amounts of damage depending on your position on the battle field. Unlike the first game, this one is a full-fledged adventure/RPG, without the "strategy" feel of the predecessor. You move through the game world on your own, visiting towns and exploring dungeons.

Arc the Lad III
Arc the Lad IIIThe events of this game take place several years after Elk and Arc faced their ultimate enemy in "Arc the Lad II". You control Alec, a teenager whose entire village was destroyed by an unknown evil - an event that was later called "The Great Disaster". He was saved by a mysterious Hunter. Since then, growing peacefully in a village he was brought to, which was like a new home for the survivors of the Great Disaster, Alec dreams about meeting the Hunter again, and becoming a Hunter himself. Together with his best friend Lutz he tries his luck in nearby towns, receiving small Hunter jobs, until the fate crosses the ways of the two young people with a mysterious organization called the Academy. And there their adventure really begins... The gameplay of this third installment of Arc the Lad series is very similar to that of the predecessor. You fight enemies in turn-based battles, and can move freely on the battlefield, positioning your party members the way you like. You can upgrade your weapons by forging them with special materials, and have a variety of techniques and magic spells at your disposal.

Front Mission 4
Front Mission 4In the year 2096, the Wanzer ("Walking Tanks" mecha) form the backbone of many military forces. The European Community is enjoying a period of relative peace when it is surprised by sudden attacks on German bases from a mysterious force. To investigate, it is decided to send the EC Armor Tactics Research Corps, also known as "Durandal". Inside the Durandal, a young new recruit, Elsa soon finds herself caught in an international plot. Meanwhile, the nation of Venezuela, is attempting to secede from the Unified Continental States (U.C.S.). UCS Forces are sent in to restore order and dispose of Governor Diaz. During a routine patrol, Sgt. Darril and his patrol witness a cargo plane being shot down. Heading to investigate, they soon discover it was a plane carrying part of Diaz's gold. For demoralized UCS soldiers like Darril, this smells like opportunity... Front Mission 4 is a turn based strategy game where the plot switches between two different theaters of operation: Elsa and Darril. Controlling the wanzer forces of either character, the story progresses simultaneously. Most battles take place on an overhead map divided into a Player phase and an Enemy phase. Typically a wanzer can move once and use his remaining Action Points (AP) to fire on the enemy or use an ability. Success in battle earns Experience Points, which are traded in for new abilities, such as Rapid Fire or Evasion bonuses. Each character has a set limit of Skill slots, which are filled up differently by abilities. While each character starts with a preference in skills, there is no limitation on what any pilot can learn. Money, found during on the map (along with items) or earned after a successful battle, can be used to upgrade wanzers and purchase new weapons.
