Come on, Capcom! You just re-released Dino Crisis! Now can you revive Dark Void! The game ended on a cliffhanger. I saw the box art that looked like The Rocketeer. Then, I saw, "soundtrack by Bear McCreary," and I was instantly sold! The freedom of flight and control allows for so many wild and unwise decisions. It's not wise, but YOU can be used as a projectile, if you skim the surface and clothesline enemies. I was never prompted or told to, but I flew between two gun turrets and had them shoot each other. Instead of dodging and ducking behind platforms, I flew straight up through an aerial fortress, bypassing all the enemies inside, to reach the control panel with the self-destruct. If you're good with the controls, the game lets you be good, and I love that.
This game definitely needs some help now that it's been delisted from steam, but this game also had problems with the drm it used and generally had issues with running due to a lack of future-proofing that would constantly cause the game to crash on newer systems. I really love this game. People don't particularly like some factors like just the fact it's a third person shooter and the story might not be the greatest, but dark void was a game I grew up with that was something really special. It's shooting felt fairly satisfying, and the enemies had excellent visual design and felt very unique. What really set this game apart though is how it tried blending vertical combat with standard third person shooting, even having sections of the game where your jetpack allows you to dogfight alien fighters and just as seamlessly hop down to platforms in the canyons to deal with infantry down below. Whenever the flow would click it felt like absolute magic. I think this game absolutely deserves something to follow it up perfecting and adding to the formula it has, but I really can't imagine anyone being willing to lose this game to being abandonware for forever.
Those games also need your vote!
