Darkspore

Darkspore (2011)

by Maxis, Electronic Arts
Genres:Role-playing (RPG), Hack and slash/Beat 'em up
Themes:Action, Science fiction
Game modes:Single player, Multiplayer
Story:Darkspore was a video game that borrowed creature editing technology from Spore. It was described as "a fast-paced, science fiction action-role-playing game in which the player battled across alien worlds to save the galaxy from the mutated forces of Darkspore". In addition to the creature editor, the game featured a unique squad-based mechanic, various multiplayer options, and a player versus player arena. The game was released in North America on April 26, 2011 for Microsoft Windows, and in Europe on April 28, 2011. EA seemingly has removed the store page of Darkspore from Steam, meaning any attempt to purchase it through Steam cannot be made. The game was later relisted with EA saying that they would continue to support for the game. Those who have purchased it prior to the page's removal still have the game and could play it until the servers were shut down permanently on March 1, 2016. The game is currently unplayable due to its DRM scheme requiring a connection.Show more

To tell you the truth, I never got the chance to play this. It was because my computer was UBER outdated and couldn't play the demo for it. But I always had this game at the back of my head. It would be great to make this have a offline option if GOG can bring it back, for people like me who missed out on it, and for the people who miss this game. I am a mega fan of Spore, so being able to play this one will be a treat and a half!

I loved this game as a kid. Might not be the best ARPG, but it's one with some really interesting mechanics, such as the three hero party with synergistic squad abilities and the catalyst system; and the setting itself being alien science-fantasy, a more mature version of Spore, which I'm always a sucker for. If I could vote for this game enough to have it greenlit, I would.

Didn't have more than maybe a couple hours to play this right before it got shut down, but I still have my CD copy just sitting in my room and I'd love to give it a chance again. The game was very unique for an ARPG, made by the folks who developed Spore and The Sims.

This for me is the perfect addition for a program that is all about game preservation, considering how the DRM of this game has made it inaccessible for some time now, Darkspore is a unique game with an interesting gameplay aspect to it with it's monster creator, it's a game that deserves a second chance at life

Might not been the flashiest, fanciest game out there but I played a shitload of it. The game became unplayable when they killed the servers, because the always-online DRM failed to connect. If GOG could somehow bring this game back, I'd repurchase it in a heartbeat.

I've never got to play this game but I absolutely loved SPORE. When I was a kid I drooled over the game but I wasn't ever able to buy it because I couldn't pay stuff online. I would love to experience it, with all its flaws and imperfections as many have stated, to fulfill one of my childhood wishes and dwell into the spooky spooks dark side of SPORE

Darkspore is a game that is slowly being lost to time, falling into obscurity and with less chances of getting preserved, this is what I feel makes it the right candidate for this program, SPORE already being here also makes me hope that GOG can become the means of which this game is resurrected and properly preserved, it had a great score, cool customization and fun combat I would buy it in a heartbeat if it came back here

I always wanted to play this game, but at the time it was new, I didn’t have a job, and I couldn’t afford it. When I finally had the means, I discovered that the servers had been shut down. Unfortunately, the game Darkspore, developed by Maxis and published by Electronic Arts, is no longer playable today. Released in 2011, Darkspore required a constant internet connection due to its DRM system. On March 1, 2016, the game’s online servers were permanently shut down, making it inaccessible ever since. I always wanted to experience an ARPG with the possibility of physically modifying your characters with the traits of defeated enemies.
It was fun leveling the different characters, collecting equipment, and running missions with randoms. Reminded me a lot of how Warframe or Borderlands felt when it was first released. A very fun co-op game that should've never shut down.

I've loved pretty much any and all ARPG I've ever played but Darkspore's unit modification and unique team construction mechanics definitely set it apart and It is sorely missed. Also, I randomly got it free from Gamespy? I forgot exactly why, I won it via a tweet or something similar but it always reminds me of that neat memory too.

Escape from Tarkov
Escape from TarkovEscape from Tarkov is a hardcore and realistic online first-person action RPG/Simulator with MMO features and story-driven walkthrough. With each passing day the situation in the Norvinsk region grows more and more complicated. Incessant warfare in Tarkov has sparked massive panic; local population has fled the city, but those who stayed are looking to improve their fortunes at the expense of others. Having accepted the new reality, “savage” Tarkov locals - Scavs flocked into well-armed gangs and started the redivision of the city. Nowadays, Tarkov is separated by unseen borders, controlled by different groups. Gain-greedy gunmen would go to any length to have their way, including the murder of civilians and direct confrontation with the two private military companies. The players will have to experience living in the skin of one of the mercenaries who survived the initial stage of the Tarkov conflict. After choosing one of the sides – USEC or BEAR – the player’s character starts to make his way out of the city. Tarkov is sealed off by UN and Russian military, supply chains are cut, communication with operational command is lost, and in these conditions everyone has to make his own choices of what to do and how to get out of the chaos-ridden metropolis.

MediEvil
MediEvilMediEvil is an action-adventure game developed by SCE Cambridge Studio and published by Sony Computer Entertainment. Originally released in 1998 for the PlayStation, the game follows Sir Daniel Fortesque, a skeletal knight accidentally resurrected to battle the sorcerer Zarok and save the kingdom of Gallowmere. The game takes place across a variety of levels, many of which require certain objectives to be performed to progress. Sir Daniel Fortesque can use a variety of weapons, consisting of close range weapons such as swords and clubs to long range weapons such as crossbows. Many of these weapons can be charged for a powerful attack and some weapons, such as the club, can be used to access areas that are otherwise inaccessible. When not possessing any items, Dan is able to rip his own arm off and use it for both melee and ranged attacks. Dan can equip a shield alongside weapons to defend against attacks; though they can only take several hits of damage before breaking. Throughout the game, Dan can visit gargoyle heads of two varieties; green ones offer Dan information while blue ones allow Dan to buy services or ammunition by using the treasures he finds. Dan's health is determined by a single health bar, which reduces when Dan is hit. It will deplete completely if Dan drowns or falls from a great height. If Dan completely runs out of health, the game will end. Dan can extend his maximum health by collecting Life Bottles, which will automatically refill his health bar if it drops to zero. Also hidden throughout the game are Life Vials and Life Fountains that can replenish Dan's health and fill up any empty Life Bottles Dan has. In each level, there is a hidden Chalice of Souls, which can be collected if the player fills it with enough souls from defeated enemies (some Chalices are awarded via other means). If the player clears a level with a Chalice in hand, Dan is warped to the Hall of Heroes, where he can speak to a legendary hero who will give him rewards, such as weapons. If the player finishes the game with all the Chalices, the game's true ending is revealed.
