Fable: The Lost Chapters

Fable: The Lost Chapters (2005)

by Big Blue Box, Lionhead Studios, 1C Company, Feral Interactive, Microsoft Game Studios
Genres:Role-playing (RPG), Adventure
Themes:Action, Fantasy, Comedy, Sandbox
Game modes:Single player
Story:Fable was expanded and rereleased as Fable: The Lost Chapters for Xbox and Windows PC platforms in September 2005. The game was later ported to Mac OS X by Robosoft Technologies and published by Feral Interactive on 31 March 2008. The Lost Chapters features all the content found in the original Fable, as well as additional new content such as new monsters, weapons, alignment based spells, items, armour, towns, buildings, and expressions, as well as the ability to give children objects. The story receives further augmentation in the form of nine new areas and sixteen additional quests. Characters such as Briar Rose and Scythe, who played only minor roles in the original game, are now given more importance and are included in certain main and side quests. Other character-based augmentations include the voice of the antagonist, Jack of Blades, sounding deeper, harsher and more demonic, and the ability to uncover (and resolve) the murder mystery of Lady Grey's sister. The updated edition of the game also applied fixes for certain glitches, such as the "dig glitch," in which the protagonist would move backward each time he used the shovel, pushing him through solid objects and sometimes trapping him.Show more

Fable is a fantastic game. The freedom to do so much. Being Evil or Good. The quests. The humor. The Voice Acting everything just fits. It would be so great to have this game on GOG! One of if not the best game from Lionhead Studios!

This game had a unique blend of cosiness, fairytale and very fun and playful gameplay. I think at that time it was the unique blend that made me love it. The coop from part 3 elevated this game even more for me.

I love this version and would like to see it preserved. While Anniversary exists, art style and other aesthetic changes were made which were not the same as The Lost Chapters. Additionally, while The Lost Chapters does exist on PC, support for it is poor. Lacking modern fixes and native controller support, these are the kinds of things that GOG excels at. Fable: The Lost Chapters would make a great addition to be preserved and maintained by GOG!

One of my all-time favourites. I've replayed it at least a dozen times over the years. The music, artstyle, story and (admiteddly somewhat simple) gameplay blend together so well. The spells always made me feel so... happy to engage in the carnage they allowed. The morality system, the fame and all... It's really good. That probably is because I just was drawn to it on a storeshelf one day and bought it, not knowing about the hype it was surrounded with.

When this game is uploaded finally, please include an easy way to get controller support. I remember this game for the XBox and it was such a beautiful masterpiece.

What I liked most with the game? The big weapons, the colors, the combination of combat and possible romance, the nasty Will o' the wisps (no, I hated them) ... Fable was fun to play - and it counted the decapitations in the statistics (with the bow) :)

Passed this game a dozen times. One of my first ever RPG's. It's got great story, important choices, nice fight & magic model. It would be great to play this game one more time after many years

This game is such a weird and whacky mix of humor, serious story, chill atmosphere, dark creepy storybook vibes, weird romance, numerous combat possibilities, and wonky morality good/evil system. It is a very odd game, far from perfect, with some unique edge and personality to it. More imperfect games like this should be made, and even more should be preserved.

A great game from my childhood. Have many fond memories playing around in this silly British game. Unfortunately it is no longer available digitally as the remaster came that, which I consider a downgrade visually.
Those games also need your vote!

Freelancer
FreelancerEight hundred years prior to the start of our story, bitter conflict divided all of mankind. A handful of colonists struck out on their own to begin anew - far away from the Earth and its turmoil. Several ships were launched with enough equipment and supplies to give the hundreds onboard a fighting chance - but since the area around far-off Sirius had never been surveyed, no one really knew what to expect. What they found was a new frontier of free-flowing natural resources, unexplored territories, great wonders and lurking dangers. Each ship, representing the clusters of people and their earthly place of origin, settled into different parts of the galaxy pre-selected by their ship-board computer to give them the best chance of survival. Life was hard in the beginning, but over the 800 years the different colonies prospered and expanded their territories, claiming more and more systems for their own. Survival and propagation eventually led to growth and profit as each of the colonies developed specialties and fostered commerce. As the colonies grew and time passed their connections with their roots on Earth dwindled and they lost their memories of the conflicts of the past. Soon their attention was dominated by new, more immediate conflicts. Feelings of lost ancestral connection spurred anachronism in the look of the great cities, and created a somewhat distorted image of each colony's cultural heritage. In the ever-expanding outer edge of the territories, frontier lawlessness prevailed. The Houses: Each shipboard colony that left Earth carried some memory of its origins in its name. The Liberty carried Americans, The Bretonia flew from The United Kingdom and surrounding territory, The Kusari from Asia, and the Rheinland launched with Germanic cargo. As each ship settled and colonies began to expand, they knew little about each other and their advancing development. Finally, little by little, the individual colonies found each other and began to set up trade routes to link their systems for commerce and solidarity. Today, with each colony firmly rooted in its respective corner of the galaxy, the colonies rely heavily on each other for trade and industry but also compete for resources and new territories in the Border Worlds. The colonies mandate member governments in "The New Alliance" within the Sirius sector. To control conflicts, each colony has forged alliances and treaties with others as they have grown. Competition remains fierce, however. Struggles rage for supremacy in business, commerce, resources, power and control. There can be tenuous peace between colonies' political agendas, but the grabs for holdings constantly unsettle the volatile frontier.
