Ground Control

Ground Control (2000)

by Massive Entertainment, Sierra Entertainment
Genres:Strategy, Real Time Strategy (RTS)
Themes:Action, Science fiction
Game modes:Single player, Multiplayer
Story:Ground Control is set in the 25th century. Mankind emerged from the devastation of the Third World War (known in the game as "The Sixteen-minutes War", which almost wiped out the whole of humanity) and managed to colonize several planets across the galaxy. The Earth is ruled by a council called GCC (Global Central Command) that is formed by elected representatives and representatives of the mega corporations which rose to power after the fall of the Terran nations. The game's plot revolves around the conflict between the Crayven Corporation and the Order of the New Dawn for the possession of the distant world of Krig 7-B. In the beginning of the game, the player assumes the role of Major Sarah Parker of the Crayven Corporation as she leads the Crayven forces in order to eliminate the presence of the "Dawnies" (her derogatory nickname in reference to followers of the Order). In the second campaign, the player assumes control of Deacon Jarred Stone in his attempt to drive the "Crays" from the surface of Krig 7-B. During the course of the campaign, however, both characters unravel a dark secret hidden within the depths of the planet, a secret that threatens all mankind, and turns out to be the reason for such interest in what seems to be a desolate fringe world.Show more

real time tactics game . emphasize the word tactics:with no building management or resouce harvesting your only focus is maneuvering your infantry, vehicles, and aircraft. for those who feel like seeing the action up closse zoom down to your troop's eye level and watch from among them as they pour fire into enemy forces, count the shell casings flying out of rifles, tanks firing rounds, and self-propelled srtillery launching rounds into the air.
It's on GOG as Ground Control Anthology; for some reason the URL is www.gog.com/game/ground_control_expansion but it's the base game + the Dark Conspiracy expansion. Ground Control 2 is here as well.

Arc the Lad II
Arc the Lad IIThis direct sequel to "Arc the Lad" continues the unfinished story of the first game, but starts from a totally different perspective. You control a bounty-hunter named Elk, who suffers from amnesia. On his quest for his own true identity he discovers the powers hidden within him, and the destiny of his entire tribe. While pursuing his archenemy, Elk meets up with Arc, the hero of the first game, and then both realize they have been looking to destroy the very same evil. The battle system of "Arc the Lad II" is similar to the one used in its predecessor: in battles you can move your characters on the battle field, and your proximity to the enemies plays an important role. You cause and take different amounts of damage depending on your position on the battle field. Unlike the first game, this one is a full-fledged adventure/RPG, without the "strategy" feel of the predecessor. You move through the game world on your own, visiting towns and exploring dungeons.
