When I was 6 years old, I had learned that my father, a true renaissance man, spoke fluent German and French. I was fascinated and wanted to l learn German too. Along with that I discovered his love of history. I became a basic armchair historian.
We had a Windows 95 and 98 PC, I do not remember which one we used at the time. Anyways, my mother knew I would enjoy a practical way to experience history. So one Christmas morning, I woke up around 5 something AM before anyone else was up to see what Santa brought me for Christmas. I looked in my stocking and pulled out this jewel case of Panzer General. I believe this is the first video game I ever owned. I still have it, but the disc is very scratched up.
I played this game so so much! I'd take a break, play some new PC I got over the years, and would come back and replay it. I loved watching the animated combat scenes, seeing all the different kinds of units and airplanes I could purchase and recognize some of what they were. It was really cool to play with German units, but even more mind blowing to have the diversity occasionally of using Italian, Romanian, Bulgarian, and other units. I loved seeing how long I could last in the Battle of Berlin, or see if I could manage to take Washington, D.C. in the hypothetical what-if scenario. Even the retro video game music in it was catchy and enjoyable. I believe you could even have scenarios where you played as the Allies.
In my older age, I am not much of a turn based strategy person anymore, but I would play this again in a heart beat if it became practial with GOG. The other Panzer General games are on GOG, but it is hard for this older dog to learn new tricks. Please bring it back GOG.com! If you need the CD to borrow, let me know!
This game challenges your brain in an entertaining way. It's time to bring it back. The maps are very well-done, and the music is memorable. No one has ever produced anything like it.
This is my dad's favorite game and it would be amazing for him to be able to play it on modern machines. Mainly so when that old Win98 PC he keeps around finally dies, he can still enjoy this game.
To moja pierwsza gra strategiczna w którą grałem na poważnie. Przegrałem w nią chyba z 1000 godzin i dalej co jakiś czas do niej wracam. Jest za razem prosta żeby w nią grać i trudna żeby zwycięsko ukończyć kampanię. Mam nadziej, że GOG pozyska prawa do jej sprzedaży i pojawi się w ofercie sklepu tak jak PG2.

SOCOM: U.S. Navy SealsThe player leads a four-man team (three AI-controlled teammates) of United States Navy SEALs through 12 missions in four regions: Alaska, Thailand, Congo, and Turkmenistan in the years 2006 and 2007. In the single player missions, commands can be spoken using the included USB headset or via an onscreen menu if the optional SOCOM headset was not purchased. Typical missions consist of killing terrorists, rescuing hostages, retrieving intelligence, or destroying terrorist bases.
The player character's codename is Kahuna, while the NPC teammates' codenames are Boomer, Spectre and Jester. The team is divided into two sub-groups, Alpha and Bravo. The Alpha group consists of the player and Boomer, while the remaining two make up Bravo. Commands can be issued to both individuals and a whole group, for example it is possible to ask team Bravo to remain stationary while the player is scouting the area with Boomer. However the player can not venture alone through a map, when Kahuna is too far away from Boomer he will automatically resume following the player, regardless of prior orders. Toy Soldiers: War ChestToy Soldiers: War Chest is similar to the previous games where players prevent enemy units from reaching the toybox by building and upgrading turrets. In War Chest, turrets can be improved by upgrading armor, fire rate and damage separately. The enemy AI is improved as well. For example destroying a bridge will cause ground units to take a different path to the toybox. Certain units have the ability to heal nearby units and some will focus on destroying any placed turrets.
Barrages and playable units from Toy Soldiers: Cold War returns with a few changes. Instead of earning killstreaks or destroying a specially marked enemy unit, the game uses a bar that fills up when killing enemy units. When the bar is filled to a certain amount, a special ability can used to call in barrages or spawn a hero unit such a zeppelin that performs a bombing run.
The game features 4 highly customizable armies (8 in Hall of Fame Edition). Players can choose which turrets to deploy, barrages and modify the hero's arsenal. As the game progresses, new customization options will become available.
The Hall of Fame Edition features four additional licensed armies based on fictional characters. This includes Duke and Cobra Commander from G.I. Joe, Ezio Auditore da Firenze from Assassin's Creed and He-Man from Masters of the Universe. The characters can be purchased separately or as a bundle on the standard version.Action Warfare
