Hexxagon is a puzzle game developed by Argo Games, creators of Argo Checkers, Hexxagon II, Night Raid and ugh...*shudders*...Xenophage: Alien Bloodsport.
While Xenophage: Alien Bloodsport is rightly heralded as one of the worst fight games ever and one of Apogee's greatest mis-fires, effectively ending Argo Games as a game developer, Argo Games' earlier works were fun and perfectly serviceable puzzle games.
Hexxagon was the first game I ever purchased with my own money as a child. Picked up in a giant bulk outlet shop while with a friend, I purchased it on sale in a Titanium Seal Blister pack that I still own and treasure today. On a single floppy disk and with a cover picture of various heavily pixelated board layouts from the game, it actually related to the game inside (a rarity for most Titanium Seal releases), I was excited to install it when I got home.
When I did, I discovered a charming little puzzle game, where you would split your pieces or jump, in an effort to dominate the board with more pieces than your opponent. It offered 3 different difficulty levels against an opponent known as the Craniac, the last of which was a real challenge to young me. A few games in and I started to dabble with the built in board editor, a simple and quick to use editor that could save up to 5 different board designs that I quickly occupied with some classics of child's creative mind:
- The board that had only one open space and I got to move first before the CPU.
- The board where my starting pieces outnumbered the opponent hugely.
- The board which was a smiley face.
Being a fairly simple but fun and stylishly presented puzzle game, Hexxagon is one of the best presented puzzle games of the time, with smooth animations and a crisp, clean interface that is a good option for preservation, given it's place in MS-DOS and shareware history, although if sold it would make sense to bundle it with Hexxagon II and probably Argo Checkers too to make it worth the money.

Dune 2000Real-time strategy taking place in Frank Herbert's "Dune" universe. The game is a remake of a classic RTS game "Dune 2". Player can play as a commander of one of three different factions: Harkonnen, Atreides or Ordos.

In this game the player would have to fight for an interesting thing; the control of the spices in the galaxy. The spices control could make you the most powerful there. The player has to choose to be one of the three houses first: Atreides, Harkonnen, or Ordos.
Each house has its own vice and virtue and the right selection could give the player right start to the game but he could learn as well as, later in the game with time. Once you choose a side, you to win the King’s challenge of producing the most amount of spice. It won’t be as easy as it sounds. For getting the control of the spices, the player has to fight over the other two houses by all means.
Dune 2000 is done with enough of stunt and live-in scenes to pep up the theme and there is a soothing sound score to add to the overall theme. It’s a game based on the Dune series book of Frank Herbert and gives the player a real pleasure of both combat and competition.Action Science fiction
Dune II: The Building of a DynastyDune II is often considered the first mainstream modern real-time strategy game and established many conventions of the genre. Even though set in Frank Herbert's famous Dune universe, the game is only loosely connected to the plot of any of the books or the films based from them. Controlling either of the three Houses, the player must fight a number of battles against the other Houses. In the early levels, the goal is simply to earn a certain number of credits, while in the later missions, all enemies must be destroyed.
The single resource in the game is the Spice, which must be collected by harvesters. The spice is converted to credits in a refinery, which are then spent to construct additional buildings and units. There are two terrain types: buildings can only be constructed on stone, while the Spice is only found on sand. However, units moving on sand attract the large sandworms of Dune, who are virtually indestructible and can swallow even large units whole. As levels progress, new and more advanced buildings and units are made available, including structures like a radar station, a repair facility or defense turrets and, for units, various ground troops, light vehicles and tanks. Each House can construct one unique special unit, and, after building a palace improvement, can unleash a unique palace effect.Science fiction
