Kuon (2004)

by FromSoftware, Agetec, Indie Games
Genres:Adventure, Puzzle
Themes:Action, Fantasy, Horror, Survival
Game modes:Single player
Story:Kuon is a horror game set in Heian period (12th century) in Japan. You control three protagonists in the game. The story revolves around a man named Doman, an exorcist who was summoned by one of the noblemen to investigate a cursed manor. His daughter Utsuki is out to search for him when he doesn't return, and her sister is charmed by demons inhabiting a mysterious castle, turning into a demon herself. A young girl named Sakuya, Doman's disciple, also ventures into the depths of the demonic world, to prove herself worthy of her master. Once the player completes Utsuki's and Sakuya's scenarios, they unlocks the third scenario where they experiences the story from the point of view of Doman himself. The game is a mixture of third-person action and puzzle-solving. As in all survival horror games, your means of defense are limited and scarce. Unlike most games of the kind, physical attacks with weapons are not your only way to defend yourself against hordes of undead creatures. You can also learn and cast spells in the game, and even summon creatures (wolves, spiders, etc.) to fight at your side.Show more

It's one of the most accessible and stylish old survival horror games out there, which is expected from, well, From Software. The art direction goes hard, and it's a shame it isn't available on modern systems.

As a fan of FromSoftware and their Souls franchise, I never played this game and because I'm a survival horror enthusiast and coming from my favorite gaming studio, this one NEEDS to be accessible for me and the others who never played it.
Kuon is one of a kind not just in From Software's library, but in gaming as a whole for its remarkable use of Japanese folklore and an atmosphere unlike anything else in the survival horror genre. It is one of the most important games in my life, and I worry for its preservation. Owning a physical copy is near impossible thanks to exceedingly high prices, and emulation is a complicated problem for this title in particular, especially on modern displays. Of any title I want to see acknowledged, archived, and playable for years to come, this is the game that would mean the most to me.
580 votes is good but not good enough for this RE copy cat game, the best one you've never played if you're already familiar with Parasite Eve 2, with this game you're set in traditional old japan temples with some magic, but still the survival horror gameplay and fixed camera angles of the first RE, amazing!
I have to play this I HAVE TO PLAY THIS. The premise is very cool and interesting. Playstation 2 has some of the weirdest games and concepts you could think of and you know what. I need all of it.
Everything about this game screams classic PS2 survival horror. The gameplay is typical FromSoftware fun and tight, compared to many other similar titles from the time that sometimes struggled with satisfying combat. The atmosphere is so unique with the only comparable titles being the original three Fatal Frame games. This game absolutely deserves to become widely available to everyone.
I remember playing his game as a mean to scatch that horror itch, but after I played it, every horror game i played afterward was to scratch that "Kuon" itch...this game is a piece of art!
please bring this game back! it holds one of the best experiences i ever had a kid. also would love to experience this game in today's era and feel the nostalgia of playing this game and sharing my experience with my community.
Those games also need your vote!

Final Fantasy VI
Final Fantasy VIFinal Fantasy VI first debuted in 1994 as the sixth instalment in the iconic Final Fantasy series. Innovations included the ability to play all the main characters as the game's protagonist, and to this day, its epic story intertwining each of their fates is still highly rated and wildly popular. With plenty of abilities available and the magicite system for controlling spells/summoning, players can develop their characters any way they want. This was also the first Final Fantasy game to include the Ultima Weapon, the most powerful sword of all and a recurring item in subsequent titles within the series.
