The fact EA refuses to do anything with these games or the franchise never fails to upset me. Another childhood classic my sister and i played all the time. It sat along all the other sim games we had in their pristine big boxes. Above that crt monitor attatched to a dell dimension tower. So many wonderful hours spent in this game.
This was such a wonderful Sim game that my siblings and I loved playing constantly. I still have the disc but am unable to play it still and would love to revisit it.

Still the best farm simulator ever. EA dropped the ball hard by not making a sequel, because no current farm games is as charming, detailed and simple at the same time. Crops have growth stats that must be taken into account of the climate and soil of your farm, animals could break fences so you had to make them double, balancing fertilizer and pesticide/herbicide to get the best crops... Amazing.
Probably the hardest Sim game I ever played...which probably meant it was true to life. Never could make a farm that didn't fail. And yet, I love it, because of the challenge!
SimFarm was a surprisingly deep farm simulator that focused on the actual farming element, something a lot of farming games these days don't do. And it came with this massive instruction booklet that talked about all the crops you could plant, how you could manage your farm, what each of the machines did and how to make sure they were running their best. It was a classic, targeted Maxis game and people obviously love farm sims: Stardew Valley is a best seller for a reason. SimFarm deserves its chance to shine.
Those games also need your vote!

Starship Troopers: Terran Ascendancy
Starship Troopers: Terran AscendancyStarship Troopers: Terran Ascendancy is a real time strategy game with a common misunderstanding. This game is not based on the movie Starship Troopers. Both, the game and the movie, are based upon the novel by Robert A. Heinlein. This is one of the few strategy games where you cannot build a base and recruit units. Instead you lead up to three squads into combat. Each squad contains a leader, five soldiers and one specialist (medic, engineer, PSI for detecting hidden bugs, MIST-Trooper as a sniper). During a mission there is no reinforcement and you are outnumbered by the bugs. The enemy units are not very intelligent, but they use their own special abilities like splitting acid and are very powerful. There is a wide range of enemies, from simple close-range fighters to suicide units, artillery bugs and even human soldiers. The mission objectives are also different. From simple hunting missions up to escorts or the capturing of bugs. The game also have a RPG part. Surviving soldiers gain experience points for each killed bug / destroyed bug holes. By and by the soldiers increase their states and acquire higher ranks. Better battle suits (armor) and stronger weapons are only available for soldiers with high ranks. The basic soldier (called Cat Trooper) have no armor and is an easy prey for the bugs. Besides the experience points you gather upgrade points for your equipment for e.g. increase the damage of the weapons. Another aspect of the RPG part is that you can equip each of your soldiers individual with up to two different weapons and two tech-items (like bombs or toxic gas). The graphic of the landscape is low on details, everything looks post apocalyptic. Much better is the combat graphic and the explosions. The cutscenes are made with the in-game graphic. Besides the sound effects your soldiers all have a voice to confirm your orders.

Frontier: Elite II
Frontier: Elite IIFrontier: Elite 2 is, of course, the sequel to Elite and it continues in much the same way. You have a ship and limited funds, and nowhere to go but out into space. Trade, fight, hunt criminals, work for the various governments, anything goes in Frontier. There are few, if any, limits on what you can do or where you can go. And Frontier's universe (with approx. 100,000,000,000 planets and moons) is so big you'll never see the end of it.

Battlezone
BattlezoneBattlezone is an arcade game from Atari released in November 1980. It displays a wireframe view (using vector graphics rather than raster graphics) on a horizontal black and white (with green and red sectioned color overlay) vector monitor. Due to its novel gameplay and look, this game was very popular for many years. Throughout the 1980s, Battlezone was ported to several home computer systems (usually on the Atarisoft label), including the Apple II, the Commodore 64, the Sinclair ZX Spectrum, and the Atari XEGS. The Atari ST port contains large parts of the original 6502 code which is emulated in real time. An Atari 2600 port was also released, but has colored raster graphics due to limitations and the view is behind the tank rather than inside it.
