Space Hulk: Vengeance of the Blood Angels

Space Hulk: Vengeance of the Blood Angels (1995)

by Key Game, Electronic Arts
Genres:Strategy, Real Time Strategy (RTS), Tactical
Themes:Action, Science fiction
Game modes:Single player, Multiplayer
Story:Space Hulk: Vengeance of the Blood Angels is a mix of a First-Person-Shooter and a tactical fighting game. It is placed in the Warhammer 40k background of the Games Workshop table top games. It is the successor of the PC game Space Hulk from 1993 and it tells of the fight between the imperial Terminator Chapters and the Tyranid Gene Stealers. You control up to ten Terminators. You give them orders in a tactical screen and/or take over one of them and then move in a 3D environment and fight the Gene Stealers just as in a First- Person-Shooter. So the game includes tactical planning and fighting in a good balance.Show more

Whatever the vote count is for this game you need to octuple it! This game has one of the finest intros ever made. The presentation is top notch. The game is rock hard and terrifying to play. It has a unique feature for the time, which was once the Genestealers caught you it would switch to a pre rendered video of them attacking you, and you had to fight hand to hand combat. to this day it still looks amazing, and the Geanstalers are terrifying. EA won't bother bringing this back alone, so we need GOG's help. Not enough people have appreciated this brilliant game.

Nothing grimmer. Nothing darker. This was my debut in the Imperium of man. It's still the imaginative origin of any investment I have in the setting of Warhammer 40K. It's atmospheric. It's tactical. It's immersive. It still looks amazing. It's hard as nails but it's fair. It is faithful to the tabletop game but builds on it in interesting ways. I played it for hours and hours and never even started to plumb its depths. No remake has surpassed it. It's a flawless GOG. It deserves to be revived and preserved.

Space Hulk: Deathwing (2018) was just eye candy, with little to offer as far as gameplay. Space Hulk: Vengeance of the Blood Angels (1995) is unique in that it combines a first-person sh00ter with the tactical and strategic gameplay of the board game. Unlike other first person sh00ters, you are not a Superman, you can't you recklessly storm into a room full of hostiles, miraculously kill everything, and take little damage (like playing Goldeneye on Agent level). Like the board game, each room entry and exit had to be strategically thought out like a SWAT operation. This is thinking man's game, not a brainless first person sh00ter. This is the type of game people mean when they say, "they don't make games like that anymore," because there ISN'T another game like this. I've looked hard for an alternative, but even its own successor, Death Wing, doesn't come close. Please bring this classic back. This would be a Day 1 purchase for me. Side note: It's ridiculous you can't say the word "sh00ter" in your story. Or an "error" will prevent you from posting. GOG realizes FPS games exist, right?
This is one of those game I only played for a couple of hours at a friend's house back in the 90's and is STILL stuck in my head. I've never owned it and want to play it again. Please give us the opportunity to play this gem again!
Those games also need your vote!
Wolfenstein RPG
Wolfenstein RPGWolfenstein RPG is a first-person shooter and role-playing video game developed by id Software and Fountainhead Entertainment, released in September 2008 for mobile phones and in May 2009 for iOS. In 2013 the game was removed from App Store. The gameplay follows the recipe from Doom RPG as it is shown in the first person while being a turn-based role-playing game rather than a shooter and puts emphasis on the plot. Combat and movement are turn-based, allowing the player time to select their responses in combat. The player turns at 90 degree angles and moves space by space. One step or action by the player allows all other characters in the area to take one step or action themselves. The game takes advantage of its deliberately slow pace, encouraging players to take their time and check out every little corner, read the books on every bookshelf, and destroy all the furniture to see if anything is hidden within. Levels include underground passages and weapon development laboratories plus a level involving a moving vehicle. The game also includes two mini games: the card game War as well as Chicken Kicking, where the player is awarded points for kicking a chicken into a score area.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake EaterMetal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is the follow up to Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. It is the first prequel in the series, taking the series to the year 1964. The player takes the role as the series' original antagonist, Big Boss, then known as Naked Snake. MGS3 is the first game in the series to take place in a jungle. This unique setting created an opportunity for new mechanics. The player can adapt to the environment by swapping Snake's camouflage, hunt animals and gather plants for food. This iteration in the series introduced a new feature in which the player must apply medicine and perform medical procedures on Snake if he is damaged in combat. Apart from the survival themed features, the controls and gameplay of the game are very similar to Metal Gear Solid 2. Like other Metal Gear games, the focus is on stealth, but the player can go through the entire game like a shooter if they choose to. Throughout the game Snake acquires weapons of all types; non-lethal firearms, handguns, sniper rifles, machine guns, shotguns, sub-machine guns, and explosives. Metal Gear Solid 3 was the first game to implement the CQC (close quarters combat) system. CQC allowed Snake to beat enemies down to knock them out, or put them in a chokehold to knock them out, kill them, or and/or question them. Metal Gear Solid 3's health system required the player to occasionally pause the game and treat Snake's ailments. When Snake is shot, there is a chance that the bullet didn't pass through him, requiring the player to use a knife to remove the bullet, apply disinfectant, apply styptic and bandage the wound. This was done through a submenu in the pause screen. Other ailments the player must treat Snake for include: leeches, broken bones, burns, cut, arrow/bolts/needles, stomach sickness, colds, and food/venom poisoning. Adding to the survival elements of the game, Snake Eater lives up to its name by requiring the player to scavenge food for Snake. Under the life bar there is stamina bar. If Snake does not eat any food the bar depletes, causing various effects. When the stamina bar is low, the player's ability to aim is severely handicapped, Snake's hands will shake in the first person aiming mode. Just like real life, Snake's stomach can also rumble, enemy soldiers can hear this, and will be alerted to Snake's presence.

Monster Hunter
Monster HunterMonster Hunter is an online action-hunting game by CAPCOM for the PlayStation 2 released on March 11th, 2004 in Japan, and September 21st, 2004 in North America. The game is a fantasy hunting simulator filled with many deadly monsters. Like actual hunting, successfully killing or capturing the monsters requires significant strategy, skill and involved resource management. While initially considered a commercial failure, Monster Hunter would go on to become one of CAPCOM's highest selling franchises. Despite featuring an offline mode, Monster Hunter was primarily an online game. The official servers were shut down on December 31, 2007 in North America and Europe, and July 1, 2011 in Japan. This means that it is now impossible to play online on official CAPCOM servers. Despite this, the game still features a small active community on private servers.
