Hello there everyone! So I decided to play BG:EE once more, hopefully this time fully finishing whole series, but unfortunately, suddenly (it worked before) my game is not starting. I am running it from Galaxy, clicking "play" and just nothing happens. I am playing on Windows 10.

Also I found out about the fix of adding SetPrivateProfileString('Graphics','Backend','1') to engine.lua and it didn't work. Also tried changing 1 to 0, and it did not do a thing. Anyone has any kind of guidance on how I could fix that issue?

Try launching the game directly by running Baldur.exe in your installation folder, if you haven't tried that.

You can also try uninstalling/reinstalling the game using GOG Galaxy.

Yeah, I tried doing both of these things :( I also ran baldur.exe as administrator.

To make it more funny, I don't have any problem running BG2:EE.

Then it's hard to tell what the problem really is, and I don't have any good idea.

Now before continuing reading my post, let's take a quick look at the solution you tried initially. Instead of modifying "engine.lua", look for "Baldur.lua" in your /UserName/Documents/Baldur's Gate - Enhanced Edition/ folder instead. Open it then look for that 'Graphics','Backend' line and change 0 to 1. That line should already be in there, so don't paste in a new line. Also restore engine.lua to original state, just to be on the safe side.

Next, you should post your PC specs with as many details as possible, to make it easier for others to help you.

Far as I can tell, people have reported similar problems with this game and other games too, and people suggested all sorts of ideas.

- Do you have a CommonRedist folder in the game folder? Try running the setups in there (OpenAL, vcredist).
- Check Properties/Compatibility of Baldur.exe, see if the "Run as administrator" option is checked. If it is try unchecking it.
- If your game is installed in C:/ and/or Program Files folder, try reinstalling it in a different drive in a folder that is not named Program Files.
- Someone reported similar problem with Stardew Valley and they fixed it by plugging in a set of headphones.
- If you are using multiple GPUs, try disabling SLI or Crossfire (I took this from the Witcher thread "Common Issues...")
