I am the happiest man alive after seeing BG 3 trailer. But the problem is it says "Single Player" on GOG page. On the other hand it says "Gather your party" on the website. So i am a little confused. I already called de old team and if game won't have coop option i would realy be disappointed.

EDIT

Well it turned out it will have Coop option so cheers!

Multiplayer wasn't so great with the original games. It's why the Infinity Engine's successor's (Pillars of Eternity, Tyranny, Pathfinder:Kingmaker) don't have them. I doubt BG3 would have multiplayer. Larian Studios has a tall order to fill if they want to implement it

Think again jsidhu.

---

"Swen Vincke: [...] you'll be able to play it in single player and in multiplayer, like the original ones, but then in our way and much more evolved than it was back then."

---

"Interviewer: Since it's so inspired and based on tabletop Dungeons & Dragons, is that influencing the way you're approaching multiplayer? Is it going to be like you're sitting down with a dungeon master? Or is it going to be a set number of party people?

Swen Vincke: It's a video game, so you want your video games to react rapidly to what you're doing and you want it to be presented to you in a visual way. A dungeon master appeals a lot to your imagination, so here we have to show things. In that sense, it will be different.

When it comes to multiplayer, you can expect us to make sure just as you have in a traditional tabletop session, each person is they're own hero. We're together as a party, but we each have our own story and we each define parts of what's going to happen in this adventure and maybe some conflicting. That should be very present."

Too early in the production to tell how it will be, but it's happening

--edit--

Gah, I just saw that "is they're own hero" blunder. Do they even have editors in that site?

in BG 1-2-ToB you controlled 6 character party?

either way,LarianStudios is strong in hugh, singleplayer RPGs,check the Divinity Series. So that's definitely hopeful for the project.
Hope it will not have the same 'success' as Gothic 3....
Call me cautiously optimistic. I'm glad that they're going with 5th Ed rules for it after the debacle of 4E. I'm not sure that illithids make for a good villain choice; to me, the illithids have always been the "puppetmaster behind the veils" pulling the strings of pawns. It's extremely rare (and extremely out of character) for illithids to be taking such a direct approach such as the trailer suggests.

The Gamespot article also suggested that the game will be developed with heavy Stadia integration, and that kind of has me worried. A Stadia game would basically mean that BG3 would not be able to be modded, which is like taking away a huge part of the appeal of single-player (or even multiplayer with friends, as opposed to an MMO) RPGs.

I'll wait for more information before deciding on whether to purchase this game though, as it's still very early days.
Btw, "Gather your party" is merely a reference to the old Baldur's Gate games. Back then the prompt "You must gather your party before venturing forth" was known to annoy a number of players. At this point it's become a signature phrase that means the game is party-based and is more or less oldschool style. It has nothing to do with whether the game is "singleplayer" or "multiplayer".

I have attached an image from the Steam Baldur's Gate III page. Seems like there will be multiplayer.

Chatter on the Beamdog forums about BG3 suggests that it will come with a GameMaster mode similar to what NWN1 had, an attempt to allow players to simulate their own tabletop experience. Details are still pretty sketchy, but IF BG3 allowed us to create adventure modules of our own and play them with friends, this would be a HUGE selling point for the game.

Thank you.

Gothic 3 was well received by most though, right? Gothic 4, now that is a completely other story.
I may be speaking out of ignorance, but couldn't they do multiplayer with BG3 ala DivOS 2?

Why is this not a possibility? That's one reason why DivOS 2 was so great. The multiplayer was godly.

I have no basis for this, other than that interview of Vincke, but my gut tells me WotC will try to use the BG3 multiplayer to build an online platform for adventuring that stands on its own, similar to what happened with NWN modules, but larger.

I read your post before and forgot to answer. There could be some cause for concern, but the game being developed for Stadia means almost nothing if they will publish it for regular Windows/Linux, which they most certainly will.

We still know little concrete things about Stadia, but being concerned here would be the same as being concerned that the PC game you want to play and mod will also be developed for consoles. Sometimes that affects the PC version in some manner, most of the times it doesn't.

That would be the best case scenario, of course, and if they do release a PC version, then my fears will be groundless. I'm just worried that, in this day and age when publishers seem to be returning to the "platform exclusive" wars, that Larian may strike a deal to have BG3 exclusive to Stadia, if only for a period of time.
