While the party is in Baldur's Gate, we just retrieved De'Tranions Baalor Ale from the Blushing Mermaid for Captain Tollar Kieres at the Merchant's League Counting House.

When we return to the counting house, The Captain is gone. Only Ulf and the guards are here. Are we supposed to return to him here, or some other building? I dont't recall fighting him.

Not sure if I screwed up on a save or not.

Any help on this would be appreciated.

If I recall correctly, Ulf (and his dogs) is supposed to spawn the first time you enter the Merchant's House when you arrive in Baldur's Gate for the first time. The quest involving the ale wasn't added till the TotSC expansion. When I replayed through the EE version, I went and cleared out the Counting House when I first arrived in BG, did all the sidequests in the city, then started the Ulgoth's Beard quests, which brought me back to the Counting House for the Captain.

What you can try doing is killing Ulf and all the guards, then exiting the House and re-entering and seeing if the Captain will spawn normally. If not, then you might need to reload to an earlier save before you picked up the ale quest and go back and clear out the Counting House first.

Thanks for the response. I wanted to try Werewolf Island before doing more side quests in Baldur's Gate, also I have Dorn and I don't want to lose him because of a repuation increase. When I arrived back at the beard from the island, I had to snuff Mendas out. I didnt't know if this had anythng to do with my current issue though.

I may test out the option of Ulf's demise. Additionally, I'll try to do more side quests while I'm back in the city. Maybe he'll eventually spawn. Unfortunately, I may have to shop for another fighter.
