It took me a while to figure out how to get custom portraits in GNU/Linux version of Baldurs 1 enhanced edition.

You have to put them in:

$HOME/.local/share/Baldur's Gate - Enhanced Edition/portraits

You don't need to have three different sizes, nor that they end in L, S or M. The other rules must be followed however.

I found out of this starting the game from a terminal, then appear traces starting with «INFO: scanning:(». There are two portrait directories, but it only worked in one of them.

I hope this is useful.

....
Or you could have asked for it :) For the future games, there are usually 3 places your game info like portraits, saves etc can be stored.

* Directly HOME folder.
* Home/username/Documents folder
* Hidden .local folder.
Hey sorry to necro this thread, just wanted to add my experience on the topic.

Running Ubuntu, the folder in question is indeed

~/.local/share/Baldur's Gate - Enhanced Edition/portraits

I had previously tried manually creating the folders without success for

~/Documents/Baldur's Gate - Enhanced Edition/portraits

So for all three of the other Linux folk googling this issue, there's the answer you're looking for. It's in ~/.local/share/
Yeah, I needed something similar to this to make eekeeper work (the location of the save folder but they are next to each other. I found it on my own but idk how any more. lol
