Gromuhl: You could also download Gatekeeper for BG1(http://www.mud-master.com/gatekeeper/)
and shadowkeeper for BG2(http://www.mud-master.com/shadowkeeper/)

With this, you can edit your savegames and the characters therein. Stats of characters, inventory etc. can be edited with this program. This way you may only get killed by demiliches or Demigorgon, but I guess you're still in BG1, so no worries :P
