I've played BG Trilogy mod a few years and the original game long time ago so I remembered but also forgot a few things. Decided not to use any spoilers (only had to consult a guide for the lowest level in Durlag's tower since I overlooked the secret door and teleport bed) so some sidequests weren't done.
I chose playing ironman style (as few reloads as possible) for a fun and challenging game and core rules as difficulty, this also meant accepting random level up rolls as well as failed scroll scribing for mages.
For my character I chose human dragon disciple (sorcerer subclass) and got a roll of 97 which meant 15 int, 10 wis and 18 in the other stats, I wouldn't have noted a difference with a roll of 84, 9 int and 3 wis.
My party (level, HP, hitpoints possible)
Dragon Disciple 9/55 38-78
Branwen 8/67 29-71
Dorn 8/50 23-77
Coran 7/8/52 44-58
Neera 9/21 12-36
Imoen 10/59 35-80
Branwen was very lucky with HP, my character and Neera got less than expected. With so low HP I had to revive her quite a lot at a temple, especially in the beginning.
Before recruiting Coran I had Kagain in the party, great con ruined by very disappointing HP rolls at level up so it wasn't too hard replacing him.
It took me 7 reloads. The final save showed 184 days and 10 hours.
1st reload: Between Beregost and Nashkel. My level 1 character got careless, walked ahead without shield spell and got shot by goblins
2nd reload: Nashkel mines exterior. Instantly killed by Greywolf in spite of 23 HP, must have had a critical.
3rd reload: The EE only area with Neera's quest, end battle.
4th reload: Durlag's Tower Dungeon Level 2. Approached the doppelgaengers at the bridge from the room in the NE but didn't dare to walk forward in fear of traps. Standing at the door my level 9 character couldn't retreat properly because of the others behind him and got killed.
5th reload: Durlag's Tower chessboard. Got teleported there unprepared, had the priest summon skeletons to far ahead from the party so almost all opponents rushed in at once. A horror spell directed at a summon also hit my character who failed his save and started running around punished with more and more lightnings.
6th reload: Durlag's Tower, lowest level. Branwen hit the trap in the very east twice and got destroyed. With a few HP less she would have died the first time already and revived at a temple.
7th reload: When getting back to Ulgoth's Beard Neera was hit by a critical hit backstab from a cult assassin and destroyed.
The first five reloads were forced because the main character died, but all battles would have been won if allowed to continue fighting, the second attempt was always successful.
Reload 6 and 7 could have been avoided but I was too lazy to get a replacement for the gone party members.
Overall it was a great experience, I was positively surprised by the quality of the EE modifications.
