I have completed this game twice, both with baldur's gate trilogy, and have enjoyed it very much. Now, I am doing a full run of Baldur's Gate (1+2), and I thought what the heck, so I started a game completely vanilla. I though this was going to be absolute misery. Boy was I wrong. I have found that I actually prefer playing the game no mods (though widescreen would be nice) to using a mod such as tutu. It really immerses you into the game, and makes you appreciate what you have more than you did before. Anybody else have experiences like this?

Not exactly, but similar.

I was going to wait until BG2 was released and then install a bunch of mods and go through the games. But I couldn't wait and just jumped in vanilla (without even the widescreen mod). And yeah, even though I remembered it fondly, I figured it wouldn't be nearly as enjoyable as nostalgia would lead me to believe it would be. But it is.
Playing it without BGT is more difficult, as you walk slower and the path AI is...pathetic. But I do agree with you that the taste is better.
I'm also playing it without tutu, but with widescreen.
The walk speed and smoothness of scrolling etc. are something I am missing more and more the longer I am playing.
But on the other hand; this interface belongs to this game, it fits the atmosphere of the game and it is nice to play it again like this once in a while.

And it does indeed make you appreciate the BG2 interface (and tutu) even more.
Somewhat related, but at first I didn't like the higher resolution of BG2 when I first bought it. I'm probably alone on that one!

No, you are not.
Yea the game definatly plays different than modded. In many ways i like it much better. you just carry the basics and you end up using more of your magical loot vrs storing it..

and if your having trouble with pathing, set it to 400000 in options. helps a bunch

Ya I already increased the pathfindings. Even with it super high, it's easily the worst part of the game.

Yeah...I'm playing through the game totally vanilla. It's amazing how much I still love it after all these years. It's not that I don't like mods, but the game is good enough to stand on it's own.

I'm almost at the end now, so I'm hoping GOG will release BG2 soon...
Yeah, I hope they'll release 2 soon as well. Come on, they keep delaying it.

They released like 10 games since the release of BG1 on GoG. I'm waiting for number 2 though!

what is exactly the issue your having? Outside of a random character getting stuck on something which is easily fixed, Or another NPC blocking a door, pretty much any issue ive had a simple quick pause, select, and then get um going int he direction i wanted.

I dunno maybe i dont even notice it after playing so long, its sorta just one of the quirky things about the game. to me it just makes you accually select them and control them more often.

I sorta go with it.. hey imoen, Your supose to be down here.. where do you think your going? Ohhh off on one of your lalalala day trips?

It's quirky, but not in a good way, IMO. I find it annoying as hell to select the entire group when they're in a corridor and try to move them into a room, or even just further up the corridor, and one or two of them decide they need to take the long way around. Many times I'm focused on deciding what tactics I'm going to use for the coming encounter or I'm looking in the inventory refilling quivers, rearranging potions/scrolls/wands, refilling quickslots, and juggling equipment and don't notice someone has wandered off until it's either too late (they've wandered into an encounter themselves, or they've gotten stuck at a wall.

I agree with blackakari that it's the worst part of the game. Don't get me wrong, the game's so good that it's worth putting up with it, but it does become extremely annoying at times.

Especially in the cramped dungeon areas, it gets almost unmanagable. The pathfinding is definitely the biggest flaw in this game.
have you tried formations? I like using the sqaure one. or follow is great. just click on the formations to change them, there are a bunch of other good ones.

best way i do it is select a few at a time, Hot keys help to. I use pause a lot, and also scout up, and then move people in one at a time.

If all you do is group move i could see how it could be a pain, but if you dont its really not bad at all
Well I'm making good time so far, and loving every minute of it. I'm playing a fighter and I'm trying to experiment with different characters this time (I picked up dynaheir and I am going to get Yeslick). Of course, I picked up Minsc as he is the heart and soul of this game, and Viconia because she is the best cleric. I kept Imoen because all the other thiefs require another person or are evil. Whats a good way to lower my reputation so I don't get it higher than 18 (I am trying to roleplay this time... I'm chaotic good.
