You know, im a big CDPR and GOG fan but this 200 mb limit on saves has made game basically unplayable

The 200 MB limit is only for the GoG Cloud save game data.
Play the game offline, disable all the cloud sync nonsense, and all is well.

You know... the irony of it all is: GOG is owned by CDPR. CDPR made thie game. They can decide themselves to give an excemption to their big complex games which also have some of the biggest savegames of the whole industry (per save) but they won't do it here, where they get the full cut of all purchases of their games.

On the other hand... AND HERE IT COMES I've talked with someone who owns the game on Steam (where they also can tell steam how much space they want them to reserve per customer) and io and behold... over there you get 1.95 GB to backup your save games in the cloud.

Funny isn't it? If you want to support them and buy it where they get all the money they screw you like they're Ebenezer Scrooge with shrinking down the backup space and someplace else where 30% or so of the purchase prize goes to another shop they actually treat you better.

They have all the power in the world to say "You bought our game right from us, thanks very much we'll give you a bit more space to backup your saves into because we appreciate it" but instead their management just can't stop shooting themselves into the foot again.

It's not that big of a deal, you can just keep them locally and when you plan to uninstall it again just clean out the unnecessary saves and sync them... but the idea that they won't even treat you on the same level as they treat people who bought it someplace else... that's real ****ed up.
The OP's post seems to be evidence that many, if not most, people save their games on someone else's server as a matter of course, and not because it's necessary.

Almost no one has a need to place game saves anywhere but on the computer that's generating the saves.

There is a direct reason for wanting higher saved game storage, and that is cross play between xbox, ps5, and pc.

Which relies on cloud storage to operate.

Just an FYI, I am assuming you didn't know because otherwise you wouldn't have implied most people enjoy using other people's stuff just to use it.

You might also keep in mind that most of the GOG community is outside the US, where individualistic living isn't as much of a focus as perhaps you're used to.

Do you mean one person playing the same game on multiple systems? I admit that that makes little sense to me, but fringe cases like this are what I referred to when I said "almost no one".

I in no way implied that most people --- or anyone --- enjoys anything. I referred to what many people seem to do as a matter of course; I neither said nor implied anything about how people may feel about it.

That is a legitimate point. I have nothing but sympathy for my brothers and sisters around the world who have had the misfortune to not be born American.
