I was just wondering if anyone knew whether there was a chance that Cryostasis might someday come back to GOG, or whether it's gone for good. I'd really love to get myself a DRM-free copy, since it's one of my favorite games, but sadly I didn't realize that in time to purchase it on GOG before it disappeared.
Considering how long the game has been gone I'd say its return is pretty unlikely.
I bought this game on Gamersgate a few years ago (DRM-Free)... It's still in my library, but the game is now removed from their store...
The game was removed across all digital distribution sites at about the same time and has not returned in any of them. As things currently stand, I would suggest to not hold your breath under any circumstances.
eBay is your best bet.

It is a huge bummer that it's gone from digital stores, that game is really something special.
Why was it removed again?

A larger question is: what's up with 1C? They have quite a large catalo, but have not released anything here for what seems like years.

How about Space Rangers HD: A War Apart 4 days ago and King's Bounty: Warriors of the North on the 9th of December 2014?

Something to do with licensing if i recall?. Got to wonder sometimes with these licensing issues.Surely cant take that long (years!!) to agree with new owners etc?.

The original developers Action Forms sorta dissolved. The problems in companies dissolving is that unless their IP is transferred to a specific party (eg. being purchased or as a result of bankruptcy), the rights enter a kind of legal limbo.

This is especially problematic because Action Forms did not officially dissolve and the core team just started another company (which does not have the rights to Cryostasis). The old company would likely have to be restarted in order to renew rights - but the original owners likely believe it's not worth the effort for just one game.

My guess is that 1C (the publisher) had a limited deal with the developer to distribute the game and once the deal expired, the game had to be taken down. It doesn't help that the developer is (as of 2011) dormant, thus the possibility of Cryostasis returning isn't good at the moment.

thanks for clearing that up. Sad this happens. :/

The developers dissolved? You mean like, they fell into a big tank filled with acid or into a volcano? That's terrible! O_O
Well drat. Shame such a great game has to disappear.

Well, I'll ask something potentially sketchy, then...

I do own the game on Steam. Since there's no possibility of getting a DRM-free version, is there anyone that might be willing to "gift" me a copy of their GOG version? Again, I do own the game already, this is just so that I have a backup version, since it seems that game is gone from stores for good, and it's one of my favorites.
Or,
I suppose I could just get a CD copy and find a no cd hack, or something...

I dunno.
