So, a few years ago, before the Time of the Origin, I got a free copy of Burnout Paradise from somewhere I don’t remember. I just had to download and install the “trial” and provide the CD Key I had gotten when installing and that was it, Burnout Paradise complete.
I had great fun back then, but was frustrated that the in game store was closed and there was no way to acquire the DLC.
Flash forward to this week, I noticed Origin finally selling all the DLC for the game in a single very cheap pack (R$2,90 which is less than a dollar nowadays). Since I had added the game to Origin already, I decided to buy it.
But first, I had to see if it would install and run under Win 10.
So I grabbed my old client and tried to install from there, only to see it get stuck early on trying to install Direct X whatever that came with it. So I ctrl+shift+escqued it away and opted to download and install it from Origin itself.
It downloaded normally and, then, got stuck into installing forever. I couldn’t cancel it nor close Origin, so I ctrl+shift+escqued it away too. After reopening Origin and trying again, it gives me an error on installing Direct X and, after that, says the installation has completed, but at the same time, I still can’t start the game from Origin because it keeps the “Install” button in place.
So, I always get one of the two results above when I try installing it. If I try to run the game launcher from inside its folder, it gives me a “game is not installed” error, but if I try to run it directly from its executable, it runs. Perfectly. I can even access my EA account and the DLC content (that I had since bought).
Trying to install Direct X from the game’s folder directly, gives me a window that flashes on screen and, then, disappears.
I still have not contacted Origin’s support service, but I found a thread with the same problem in their forums. The answer was “reinstall direct x” and it seems to have solved the dude’s problem, but I don’t think I can replicate that with my current setup.
Any suggestions?
PS.: On a side note, my Laptop turned completely off on a couple of times I was playing the game with the DLC cars. Since yesterday was a very, very hot night I think that might have been the cause, not the game (the laptop sure was hot under it though I haven’t checked its temperature).
