Yes, it should be, but that is not always the case - which is inexcusable.

"Options & Extras" > "Input" > "Device Management" > "Input Binding"

So you are confirming you can remap the controls. Awesome, that means I will open and keep the game.

When you wrote it should be doable I read that as "should be" but without knowing for sure. Some games limit to 2 preset layouts and that's it. I detest and despise using the shoulder buttons for gas and brakes in racing games and won't buy them if they are locked as such.
