I recieved a new pc running Windows 7. I will NOT be using a video card, but the PC has hd 610 integrated graphics. Any reason the New Vegas and Fallout 3 games won't run? I'm switching over from an xbox 360 and the PC was a gift from my wife. 44th BDAY, woohoo!

I don't know much about integrated GPUs but what processor, RAM and laptop / desktop?

Historically intel integrated graphics have been bad, really bad.
Recently they've got better, still bad, but a lot better than before.

Unfortunately I don't know which chipset it was.

It's a kaby lake 3.5 processor. hyperthreaded, so it's like having a quad core? 16 gb ram, desktop.

Congrats on the birthday! But you really should invest in a video card.

Again I don't have much experience (read: any) with onboard / integrated graphics so wait for someone with a bit more knowledge... but I think I might try rolling with that. Nice setup - enjoy!

In terms of performance, I would expect FO3 & NV to run on that GPU, but you'd probably have to turn the graphics down quite a bit (and maybe even drop the resolution for smoothest gameplay).

As to whether it will work or not, I cannot say without trying. There are many factors involved, including your OS & graphics drivers. But I would say there's a good chance it'll be just fine.

I know people have run FO3 on Linux with much older Intel GPUs.

Fallout 3 game does not support intel hd cards. The game though could run on it but if it doesn't there are workarounds available online but there is no quarantee that they will work.

Fallout New Vegas is more or less the same. You must understand Intel hd 610 is an hd graphics card which is a part of the budget intel cpu - g4560 and as such you cant expect much from the integrated graphics.

Eitherway in order for integrated graphics to work at best you would need 2x8GB ddr4-2400 ram which is not worth it.

It would be better if you get a cheap rx 470 graphics card or gtx 1060 or gtx 1050 or any lower to mid tier graphics card and then you should be fine for any game on gog.

If you have the option to install a graphics card, then do so. Even a £80 budget card will run circles around on chip intel graphics.

Sounds like a solid rig with sucky graphics. Get a gtx 750 or 1050; they are not high end but get the job done without asking for deep pockets or massive PSU power.

EDIT: Ignore my wrongness. The Kaby Lake HD 610 is significantly worse than the Skylake HD 530 and might not do well for the game. If you're sure you have one of those really bottom-tier Kaby Lake processors that uses the 610 instead of the 630, then you might want to find a $40 graphics card. If by chance you've misread your model number and do in fact have one of the Kaby Lake HD 630s, then you'd be fine for running New Vegas with your integrated.

The store page requirements are complete bollocks most of the time. "not supported" simply means they don't give a shit. The game could run perfectly well.

Specifically, it does not mean "game does not support intel cards", it means the developer/publisher/gog don't support you if you run into trouble with the game on intel cards.

There are countless games that work *just fine* with Intel graphics despite claiming otherwise, or simply not specifying any Intel GPU in the requirements.

And that is why people here ask people who know rather just going blindly by the store page.

But it is true the HD 610 is bottom tier for the current crop of Intel chips. And they really haven't gotten faster in the past few generations.

I understand but I also went to Steam forums and checked about Intel HD cards for Fallout games and there are countless threads about huge problems with the Intel HD cards. Games not running, crashing, etc. Thoughs for some people the Fallot games work but also for other people using intel hd cards they don't work so as said its a guessing game. I would still recommend a cheap graphics card instead of the integrated graphics.

There is a mod for that BUT as others have said, the 610 is rock bottom even if modern :-(
