MadalinStroe: It's been said before, here in this thread, that this is a historical drama. This isn't a documentary. So, the stereotypes and historical inaccuracies are all excusable due to the medium.

Oh well, in that case, if you are sure it didn't manipulate you, then lets at least with full support on actual history thank the Soviet government and all the liquidators for professionally minimizing the catastrophe impact. Can we or we have doubts now?
You can check my opinion on the the series in post 17, from two months ago when this thread was started. I've made it clear there how I felt about the series, and my opinion hasn't changed. Please don't take it personal, but I don't know where you got the impression I was trying to minimize the sacrifices that where made to mitigate the disaster.
tinyE: Maverick, Ice Man, and Goose's son. Viper is a mystery. Tom Skerritt refuses to answer any questions, though it's not listed on his IMDB page.

I saw the trailer when it was released at comic-con, but I didn't recognize any of the old characters in it.
