I contacted Dark Horse Comics and Dark Horse Digital about their latest offerings on Humble Bundle being PDF only. The former didn't reply and the latter replied the following:

"We are only offering pdfs in our Humble Bundle offerings. Sorry to disappoint."

Besides being curt, this has me worried about future Dark Horse bundles no longer including comics in CBZ format. I bought the Eerie bundle but passed on the Halo one.

Also, you can use the code SPOOKY to get a 50% discount on Dark Horse Digital. It should be valid throughout October and stack with sale prices.

Thank you! I did :)

PSA, kinda, too - Dark Horse theoretically force you to use their app, they don't have downloads of purchases - but they also don't actually drm anything, they just make it obnoxiously difficult to find, so... there's ways around it.. It's a bit of work, but I can post instructions if anyone needs them.

I'm for it, might persuade me to make some purchases there. But if you do, better erase the message content after a while, so it won't be up for grabs for anyone on Google, which will likely cause them to block that option.

Point taken about being a bit subtle.

Instructions on github (just as a readme file) -

https://github.com/gaz-beep/downloader-thingy/blob/main/README.md

No keywords used anywhere there, so hopefully they won't notice, because yes, attention would be annoying. And obviously replace [equine] with the proper url halfway down.

Also - and i should have said - this is for linux. There are windows tools to do this but I haven't used them and don't know if they still work or are safe - but googling Metalnem and the store name finds them. Either way, the main problem isn't the downloading part, it's getting the right page number and filename pairs - I'm doing it with grep, so this way needs linux-type tools - but it could be done manually if you were really desperate.

Thanks, it actually worked! I saw they made some differences in the .jsonp file between the FCBD book of 2011 and 2023, so it didn't run perfectly on the latest, but it's easy enough to overcome.

I wonder if there is some watermark somewhere in the downloaded books or not.

notice that the code seems to be usable only once per account, which is something I wish I knew prehand..

Glad it did - it's a bit rough :)

Its possible - I think jpeg can have unused empty space at the end of bytes (so it only uses 7 bits of the 8 or something like that), so if someone wants to, they can regenerate every single jpeg as it's purchased and put an account number or something in these last bits. In every image. If that number is somehow hidden or encrypted (so not obviously an email address or account number), there's no way for the end-user to ever know.

I have no idea if any website does this but... yeah. I kind of assume they might.

Oh nice! I am definitely in on this.

Also, there are lots of halloween themed ebooks on the various sites for those who aren't checking but are also into 'regular old' books.
Vault comics have a flash 25% off their ebooks (pdf) on their website with code PIXEL25, up to Oct. 22nd:

"Halloween Horror Comics" Bundle on Fanatical:

https://www.fanatical.com/en/bundle/halloween-horror-comics-bundle-ft-night-of-the-living-dead

all comics as PDF
Doctor Who Megabundle - 2023 books (?)
Humble

A mix of comics, RPG books, and audio dramas.

A new Humble Humanoids bundle:

Probably some repeats, especially from the Groupees bundle, but there seems to be a lot of content that might make up for it.
