"D& amp; D"

Seriously, gog, can you do something about this? This is annoying as hell when reading through the reviews.

That's been a problem ever since they wrecked the site for the 10th anniversary a couple of years ago. Before then, this problem did not exist. Once the problem emerged, it retroactively ruined all the reviews that were written before GOG broke the site, not just reviews newly-written after that point in time.

People have complained about this problem in the months and years before this original post was made, but as is typical, GOG completely ignores it.

And there were even a lot of threads saying "the reviews have been fixed!" after they finally added back paragraph breaks, which they had also removed when they wrecked the site for the 10th anniversary...and then left that aspect broken for a very long time too.

It seems those fake news threads that falsely said "the reviews have been fixed!" - which, of course, they never actually have been - completely drowned-out all the legitimate complaints about the "&" symbol being fubared by a bug and hence ruining the words of the reviews.

By the way, having that done is even worse for the authors of the reviews for who this bug has butchered their writing, than it is for the readers of them.

Yeah, GOG's website doesn't even support extended unicode.

An old trick you can do is hand copy the XML code for an emoji 🦇 and when someone tries to reply to a post containing the actually translated emoji, the forum system will just eat everything after the emoji.

I imagine there's a "Bobby Tables" somewhere in there; like using one of the legacy unicode point tables to make the server restart. ␗

The only way to work around such issues is using plug-ins for your browser like Replacer for Firefox.

One can only be grateful that there are members around writing scripts, plug-ins, software to make the experience of using this website and its shop a better one. A job GOG should do since they get paid for it ...

And where would you find a PHP specialist in all of Poland? Or a DevOps Engineer, Or a Junior C++ dev?

Finding qualified developers is easy. The question I would ask is how much GOG pays for the respective positions. Pay nothing and you get nothing. If at least they contracted companies within Poland when they can't fix it, or couldn't care less to if they were able, as long as people can buy and browse the website and forum ...

It works, that's so exciting! How does it work? Why does it eat the message?

I fed one bat tonight!

Wait, do you honestly think there are none? They actually have universities where you can study that, like in all other Western countries. Not to mention you have people coming into Poland to fill those positions, but there are plenty of Polish devs. Or do you think that all Eastern European countries don't have IT specialists or something?

5ish years ago, they had a lot of emotional capital from their userbase. Some folks would have done it for free if they asked. Folks want to play their old favorites and talk about them.

Edit: Oh wow. It really does just eat the whole post.

They've been a complete mess for years, and delaying the necessary rewrite of the whole site vs the cobbled together farmhouse (haphazardly added wings and rooms as the family grows) with pockets of badly written code and add on modules that work around flaws instead of writing them out will cost them in the long run. The longer they wait to fix the root problem, the more expensive and difficult it will be.

I'm implying that anyone with sense would quickly go to any other job. As GOG is asking:

1) Mandatory attendance. Telepresence doesn't appear to be an option. I have yet to see statements that prove otherwise.
2) There are countries surrounding offering remote jobs just across the border for better pay and tickets there and back are fairly cheap.
3) That someone is willing pick them over other high demand positions with the implied onus of fixing a creaking mess instead of just recoding it all from the ground up.
