mariopepper: Linux is most comfortable distributive. Why they don't have to support it?

zeroxxx: No money for supporting Linux. Hahahah. Too cold, hard truth for Linux users.
Why are you gleeful about that fact? Everyone would benefit if Microsoft had more competition, whether you like Microsoft or not.
I think the problem is that people's expectations exceed what was promised when GoG said they were supporting Linux. If you actually look at the original support announcement they said that they would try to get linux releases for new games when available, which they do. And that they would provide technical support of their linux installers, which they do.

If they can't get a linux build because they can't get licensing for it, or because a developer won't provide a build to them it's not their fault.

They didn't promise that every game would get a linux build, they didn't promise to support games that didn't have an official installer, they never promised equivalent support levels to Windows, and they never promised that every feature that works on windows would work on Linux.

You can take that to mean they don't really support Linux, but you can't say that their support of Linux has gotten worse... the support they offer for it now is the same as what they originally offered.
Well, GOG continues supporting linux as usual because new releases have linux support when available (and that's the reason I am buying them here). There are a few exceptions (like Bioshock Infinite) but they are due to porting done by a third party. As for Galaxy, I never personally cared about it.
Just wanted to mention that I recently purchased some games here because they included linux versions, specifically:

Broforce
Dustforce
Teslagrad
Not a Hero

Although I'm willing to use a windows pc to play games that don't work on linux, I keep that pc off-line so it's sort of a hassle. I prefer playing games on my main linux computer.

darktjm: Well, you just visit your account page/game shelf (used to be the default if you clicked your name, but now you have to select Games if you're not using a web hack to fix that)
No, you just click your name, no need for hacks. They went through a brief period where you had to select Games, but fixed that ages ago, probably when they fixed that ridiculous forced profile nonsense.

darktjm: click on each listed game under "DOWNLOAD OFFLINE BACKUP GAME INSTALLERS" to download. Nothing to it, really.
Ah ok. So even Windows users have to click on each 'part' of the executable, download them separately, then extract the installer with the executable, then install the game? Ok then. Suddenly I don't feel so bad being a linux gamer. Except the executable to extract won't work out-of-the-box of course.

As to the discussion - I think it's fine to let 3rd parties get games working for GOG - but at the same time, let's not pretend GOG actually 'supports' Linux. Someone said it's in a passive way - I would even say it's in a very ambivalent way.

*wakes up in the morning*
*'waat? linux version? i don't believe you'*
*oh well, guess we should sell it, i suppose*
*starts selling it*
*goes back to bed*
The linux installers worked for me.

A couple notes:
You need a 64 bit debian based version of linux to play linux games from GOG (at least, that's what I'm using).
You might have to "execute" the .sh install file before it will run.

My file browser (PCmanFM) gives me the option when I click on the .sh installer to "execute" it, but other file browsers should have the option to make the file executable by editing the file properties if necessary (usually by right clicking on it and choosing the option from one of the check boxes).

I had seen this post quite early - but I tried to handle my problems with GOG ...
as I am now again waiting for a real answer due to a ticket created by GOG after deleting my review ...
so for all people who think that this thread has no substance just look at my forum post:
* https://www.gog.com/forum/forgotten_fields/currently_not_a_real_linux_game_review_censorship_by_gog
And please give a comment if the old review was deleted out of reason or if this is censorship!

Maybe I will soon put the entire ticket of 02/2021 with the subject:
"No Linux support and generally bad quality concerning Linux games"
with all which piled up till creating this ticket here - to prove that some gamers do have problems.
And I came with solutions to change the situation for other gamers ...

So a clear yes to the question if one can doubt about GOG supporting Linux.
And the list is enormous ... and GOG is aware of this.

And to all Windows-only gamers: you can fetch your popcorn ... ;)
Resurrecting a thread from last year is considered a necro, you know. Unless you want the GOG clerics to exorcise you, I'd advise opening a new thread in the future ;).
