Serren: Relevant article.

I saw this coming the moment Windows 10 was released and they started removing user control, packaging in spyware and putting ads on the desktop. I won't touch Windows 10 and I certainly won't pay a subscription to use my computers.
Wow, thanks for that link. Should this actually come to pass, I guess it's full time linux for me, then.

InkPanther. It's frustration at the direction PC gaming is going. I wrote a positive review for no man's sky which I still like and can play the base game but can't NEXT because it requires VCredist 2017 which Microsoft made it so older cpu's like my 980x isn't supported. Why should I buy a new CPU and mobo when my setup plays new games really well? New doesn't always mean better, on top of that it's wasting rare metals and minerals that guess who extracts them for the benefit and pleasure of technology oligarchs and us having the latest hardware to play demanding games; Children!! yes just search conflict zones in Congo, Nintendo you are also complicated in this unethical unspeakable deed.

Gede: Welcome to the future, NovumZ! Carrots and sticks for everyone!

Talking priorities, playing Withcer 3 is not that important to me, so the choice is not that hard.
I honestly don't know what will happen to DRM-Free gaming post win7

Thanks Serren for the link.
- I was just in disbelief yesterday and mentally exhausted of what is about to come of my and others hard earned hobby.
I'm dabbling with Linux more and more, but that still requires the personal computer hardware industry to remain in existance. Should Microsoft be able to kill off this industry, I suppose one day we'll have 3D printers advanced enough to print our own hardware.

Well, as long as you have your GOG backups and keep your old rig(s), you'll be able to play your games.

As for the future, it's all going the way of on-line/streaming (movies, tv, gaming, etc) There will come a time where you own nothing with respect to entertainment and will rent it all. Total control for the content creators, content providers, and the big companies (Apple, Microsoft, etc) that enable you to view it. Not exactly a world I look forward to, but I feel it's inevitable. Until that time though, I'll enjoy my entertainment the way I want. If that time comes to pass before I pass on, I'll likely not be watching new tv/movies or gaming much, but I'll still have my backups and my physical copies to enjoy.

+1

I guess they forgot what "Personal Computer" means somewhere along the way. I once tried Windows 10, briefly enough to know that I wouldn't even want to touch it with someone else's shitty stick, before "upgrading" to Windows 7 again.
Don't get too excited about this "relevant article", guys. The only piece of information related to this thing I could find, is that the solution is for business clients and Windows 10 Enterprise edition.

Edit to provide source.

The article says "Microsoft is getting ready to replace Windows 10 with the Microsoft Managed Desktop" and its premise is entirely based on another article. Author of this other article also wrote this one:

I like 10.

If someone wants to spy on me, let em.
I pity the poor guy in charge of that surveillance. :P

They did with 10. I remember the days when you could change the font without having to go through the registry, and change system colours when using the classic theme. Now days with 10, we are just nothing but guests on our own machines.

Yes, further googling has seemed to show it's aimed at business. Information is sparse, so it does bear watching though, to see if MS may try to go that route for personal devices as well.
