How does this work? Just sitting there in the background using CPU, but other than that it does not seem to be doing anything, if it is downloading something can we get a progress window?

SergeTroy: Hey there Community, pretty simple question and let me know if I'm asking it in the wrong area. What I'd like to know is if it's possible to install GOG Galaxy to a different Drive & Directory than what it defaults to on my PC (which seems to be "C:\Program Files (x86)" ). By preference I'd like to install it to my Games Drive which is a separate SSD & Drive with it's own layout. Is that something I can do at start (Change / Set GOG Galaxy Install Path), or am I only able to migrate the installation after it installs to the default spot?

I'm using Windows 7 64 bit, Home Premium where it matters (though that'll change later). Thanks folks!
avatar
helpi: Yes. In the installation menu you can select the drive and directory. Some data remains in the c drive unter ProgramData, with me about 700 MB.
Thanks @helpi, had been doing the bundled GOG Galaxy plus game install which was the confusion; when doing GOG Galaxy individually I was able to do like I wanted. :)

Johny.: Library - from when Galaxy was launched - didn't change much. We are happy to be working on improving it now. :) Can't wait to roll them out!
avatar
BKGaming: Like just wondering... but whatever happen to this? I could be wrong, but I don't think library has really changed since this was posted. I was reading GOG's/ CDP's financial reports and this stuck out to me: GOG Galaxy is continually expanded with new features, in like with gamers’ and developers’ expectations.

We haven't had a major update since April 2017... almost 2 years and feature wise haven't gotten much in that time frame, except profiles which aren't directly a Galaxy feature. Just where is that "continually expanded with new features" for gamers happening at?

Yea I look forward to Library improvements. I want to be able to see the shelf game library grid view offline and also be able to see my installed games in the shelf library grid view similar to how you can currently on the left side list view.

Yes, you're right - library in the current Galaxy version is the same as it was then. I don't change a word in what I wrote in the quoted post. :) Also, there was no lie in the financial report quote.

We're happy that you remember about us. We won't let you down.
Someone from the GOG team can tell me if the URL and the IP of the detection message of my antivirus are common use of the page to make the downloads. I just want to rule out a false positive or a real threat. This message was published 3 days ago:

When I started the Spellforce 2 download, my ESET antivirus showed this message:

Time; 03/25/2019 08:32:19 p.m.
URL; https://cdn-edge-dynamic-1-bhs-ca-ovh.gogcdn.net
State; Blocked by internal IP blacklist
Application; C: \ Program Files (x86) \ GOG Galaxy \ GalaxyClient.exe
IP adress; 54.39.176.22
SHA1; A8B71843C86F1A71427BF91A70A7DD6F89265F6F

I had never been warned by my antivirus when downloading from Galaxy.

The ip address and URL that the message throws are legitimate from GOG?

I contacted the support, but they only thanked me for reporting the incident without giving me more details.

Johny.: Also, there was no lie in the financial report quote.
I'm not exactly saying that GOG / CDP lied and I have no doubt that Galaxy is "continually expanded with new features" while in development behind the scenes, but considering none of us know what those new features are or even when we will be able to use them... saying "GOG Galaxy is continually expanded with new features, in like with gamers and developers’ expectations" in a report about 2018 (in which no new features were really released) is a bit disingenuous when it could be years before those features are usable by gamers. Just saying...

Well of course I remember, I've been waiting and waiting for version 1.3 to drop for a long time. But besides that, and I mean this in the nicest way possible, you kind of already let me down. I think a lot of us are let down because we expected that Galaxy would improve at a faster pace. Even if that meant smaller but faster feature updates, instead of these big long drawn out version changes that you obviously have planned. It's been what almost 2 years since leaving beta now and Galaxy still is missing the most basic of client features, stuff that should have been added long ago in smaller incremental updates.

When the next big update does drop, I have no doubt I likely won't feel let down and I will appreciate all the work you guys have put into it... but right now, yea I'm defiantly feeling let down because I think GOG management is largely mishandling Galaxy.

It's a game client that has left beta in Apr 2017 (almost 2 years ago) and started development with a closed alpha (I believe in Dec of 2014...I was part of this, but I could be off) and is still missing the most basic of features:

- Offline mode for chat / friends or appear offline.
- Online Status (Away, Busy, etc.)
- ETA for downloads.
- Linux client.
- Voice chat for MP / Group Chats.
- Ability to add Non-GOG games shortcut.
- Disable / un-check Start Menu shortcut creation.
- and many more.

It's been 2 years, I don't believe for a second you don't have features right now that are done and could be tested in the BETA branch gaining valuable feedback. But you won't... GOG refuses to add those changes and let us test them while we wait due to (I believe) either wanting to generate some kind of PR hype for 1.3 or some other equally absurd reason. So instead we will get a buggy mess most likely when 1.3 does drop or the features will not be fleshed out as they could have been with feedback. This is exactly what happen when version 1.2 was released, which did not stay in beta long enough at all.

Sorry, I know it's not personally your fault, but whoever in managing this project isn't doing the Galaxy developers any favors here.

This... this is how you approach software development:
https://trello.com/b/GXLc34hk/epic-games-store-roadmap

Planned features that are laid out with a clear timetable for when they might be implemented. GOG does the compete opposite and it's a bad development practice.

/ end rant

Nope, this is new since the latest updates. I've been having it with every game too. Have fun pressing retry constantly.

In the chat transcript from the recent results conference, Adam Kiciński said that GOG was working "on a new technology which will be unveiled in the second quarter"

At least we have a time-frame, and I'm thinking it's something more gamer-facing, even though it doesn't specifically mention Galaxy.

Well thanks for that info... so I guess between 1 April – 30 June we can expect something. I mean we waited this long I guess, what is another month or two or three? Sigh.

Is that an issue specifically with The Witcher? I've downloaded 10+ games in the last week with Galaxy with no issues. Not saying others don't have issues; I'm sure they do. Perhaps I'm just lucky?

I don't believe everyone experiences this bug. For me it's happening with basically everything.
Can't connect, can't access my games, gog galaxy is asking my password, but I already filled up correct one & he seems to remember me.
Please make it start faster. 15 to 20 seconds launch time for a launcher is pathetic. And my system is not anemic, win 10, 16 GB @3200 ram, ssd, ryzen 1600, x370.
Internet 250 mbit..
Should start much faster.

Yup.... A Browser starts for me within 2 seconds and gog use about 20 seconds for a launch. And I wait still for the fullscreen future for the videos in gog.... Gog, that s are basics....
