Well, its appears that for us in the UK the internet history is now going to be saved:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-34715872
I will pick out a couple of my favourite quotes from this:
"Will they be used against the innocent? Ministers will promise world-leading levels of restrictions, scrutiny and oversight which they say will be designed to prevent abuse from ever taking place."
This from the people who leave council databases on pendrives on trains, and bin confidential documents in public park bins, even leave their own children in pubs.
"but security chiefs and police say they're not interested in your online shopping habits" - pull the other one, its got bells on it.
What they seem to be unable to fathom is that these things don't actually affect those they are targeted at, much in the same way as DRM. These measures affect the normal person, and it will eventually end up with marketing as everything does, those trying to avoid these things are already 10 steps ahead of that. Not to mention who is going to finance this (yes, expect your internet bills to go up) as the police are being cut back everywhere (well apart from certain affluent London neighborhoods).
