when and why was the bookshelf neutered? please don't say due to "server load" issues. i won't buy that. i would like the single/continuous bookshelf back. i don't want pages of it, i want it to load and see ALL my games in via a single continuous bookshelf/page. at least why not give an option to those who want to have the singular bookshelf back.

if i had to guess, it was changed at the time when the game packs were split into singular entities when galaxy was released?
Try this then: https://www.gog.com/forum/general/adalia_fundamentals_fixing_gog_so_you_dont_have_to/page1

That's the first time I've ever heard a bookshelf described as being "neutered".

I don't even want to know what kind of "bookstores" OP is visiting.

But yes, using the script linked above is going to be more efficacious.

As I say to my children... I want does not get.
While we are at it, why don't we have an option to see when a particular game was purchased? I would really like to see such information and I have an impression that we did have it in the past. Or did we?

You still have that. Just go to your order history under Order and Settings and you can see all the games you purchased and when.

You do, it's under orders and settings. You can also sort your shelf by date purchased, but that doesn't give you dates just a ballpark idea of purchasing timeline (and received gifts come up as the time the gifter bought them, not when you redeemed them)

Heh, ninja'd

And as for the original question, it was dropped because of programming issues, its not very compatible with the new way they show your games. Not to say it's impossible (I managed it eventually with a bit of hacky stuff) but it's not a clean and tidy way of doing it.

Best way to keep them single.

Ah, thanks guys, so I was wrong after all. I am sometimes confused with the layout of Galaxy. It looks to me as if they are forcing themselves to place things differently than Steam does just to show how different this client is (it might be an idea-copyright thing too maybe?), but it just makes navigating through it a bit confusing. E.g. basically every store/website has the search field to the right of the screen or towwards the top of the screen. And they decided to place it to the left, while it still looks like a field to search YOUR library only. It might discourage a lot of people from using this client - not everybody has the patience to look for simple options which are not where they expect them to be.

Now, now -- just because a bookshelf has been neutered doesn't mean it can't still enjoy a fulfilling relationship with another bookshelf; they just won't be able to produce any new bookshelves together.

i STILL want my single shelf back..

steam profiles can still load profiles with 15K games. all those pictures and such in a single long profile if you want it that way. on gog a single shelf with all games would be what? 3K or less?

Okay, okay. I'll just use a bit of magic, here goes nothing! buzzzz *$* ZAP!!!!...???...WT...DRAT! It backfired! Oh well, I tried.
time for a quick bump then it is..

used to be a time when the game "shelf" was one long continous thing. they broke it into pages.

still, i'd like both options available. i want to load ALL my games in one continous single shelf page.
