Hmm... I wonder what role (if any) developers have in these kinds of price decisions. Like with Obsidian's RPGs, I wonder if they have any say in the prices, or if it's entirely up to Paradox.

PaterAlf: Our prices have remained pretty much the same for several years and it's only natural for us to re-evaluate price points at regular intervals based on the strength of various currencies, fluctuations in world markets and many other factors. This is something that all publishers do and we are no exception.
Or to put it more bluntly:
The societies in this regions have now more money for us to suck out of them. We are not dumb enough to already kill the cows that still give milk.
All hail to capitalism and the almighty market, our god and saviour...

In fact my purchasing power is not increased.

Yeah, it's utter bullshit. Not sure what exactly made them feel like Germany has more purchasing power all of a sudden, for example. Tyranny released less than a year ago. I can say that nothing happened in the past six months to make all German folks richer. I guess they just didn't find a way to better spin on it.

PaterAlf: Here's their official comment:

"Hey gang,
As you have noticed prices for our products have increased in certain regions around the globe and this is something we've intentionally done. The reason for this is to make our prices match the purchasing power of those areas, as well as create a more equal price point for our products across the globe.

Our prices have remained pretty much the same for several years and it's only natural for us to re-evaluate price points at regular intervals based on the strength of various currencies, fluctuations in world markets and many other factors. This is something that all publishers do and we are no exception.

Sadly this means that the price has gone up for certain regions and whilst this is something we'd like to avoid, it's necessary to keep our price point more in line with our other markets. We sincerely apologize for any frustration this may cause and hope you can understand why we are doing this."

What a bunch of assholes. Pillar of Eternity: Royal Edition cost nearly 90$ (US) here and they still think it's underpriced???
Yeah... "We raised the prices based on purchasing power etc." What about regions where the currency got weaker and the people have less purchasing power? "Oh, we're leaving those the same or raising them too. Fuck logic."
They did it.

nightcraw1er.488: Not quite sure I understand this. It costs them X amount to produce a game, which then goes onto the net for people to buy and download. How does someone being in country a or country b affect this? Tax, yes I could understand that, but just happening to be country a doesn't increase the cost to Paradox one iota. Surely this is just taxing rich countries to up your own profit margins?
Or perhaps they need to continuously feed their DLC machine?
You're arguing a tough one. I've made that argument for years. But then people in poorer regions are always like "Games shouldn't cost 60% of my monthly income for me to play!!!1" as though games are a right that should be distributed equally among the people.

Time to remove all their games from my wishlist.

I was always told, "the worlds not fair, live with it". I don't own an Aston martin, bring down anyone who has one, we should all have one!
Smart move, raising prices mid-sale. So what, they couldn't wait another week? It was so pressing a matter it had to be done asap? Ridiculous.

GR00T: It's interesting that when companies take "the strength of various currencies, fluctuations in world markets and many other factors" into account, prices rarely ever go down...

Wow. I had Tyranny in my cart, just trying to decide if I wanted to pull the trigger. Went up 5 bucks overnight, so no deal. Guess this one's off the list until such time as it's down to 5 bucks or so...

Oh, it's even more perverse: regional pricing favours rich people in generally poor countries and disfavours poor people in generally richer countries (to go with their high living costs). As paladin181 said though, we've aired these points before...

Raising prices mid-sale is so scummy.
