Because, Nilfgaardians will be black. And the new take on Emgir's conquest will be that Progressive Empire is waging war on racist Nordlings.

P.S. Oh, and "the double" presented to Emgir should be white!

Would I have liked them to follow the books as closely as possible? Sure. But no adaptation is going to be exactly the same as the source material. Hell, the games made dozens of changes to the story and characters, and they still turned out fine/great. If you're someone who likes the games and thinks this one change ruins the series, you're either a hypocrite or you simply don't know what you're talking about.

darthspudius: *sigh* Oh well, that's me out already. If they can fuck this up so simply, what are they going to do with the story? other characters? etc. Fucking lefties, stop ruining everything.
aye, if the show turns out to be great, but a character has the wrong color, I do indeed think you should not watch it. for the greater good all.

I literally couldn't give a poop at this point. If they're willing to use the project as a political platform, I couldn't give a fuck. I'm simply not watching. I've had enough of that kind of pish already. I don't need to watch anything else of the sort.

Emhyr Var Emreis, being leader of what is *clearly* (sarcasm) a white supremacist party cannot be BAME though. How do you explain that?

But seriously, The Witcher has minorities aplenty! Make a Zerrikanian original character, bring someoen from Ofier. But no, they must subvert the lore.
It is like having a Lord of the Rings movie with a black Aragorn. It's not being against diversity, it just makes no sense.

If creators start with search for actors, assembling cast based on their skin color and not talent, I really doubt in "turns out to be great" outcome.

Black supremacy?

Or Lord Of The Flies with girls. It's infantile.

In truth though, despite how bad Nilfgaard can be, it is by far the most tolerant institution among Humans.
They are more about business than principles! XD
Look on the bright side: at least there will be a Ciri in the series :P. A lot of adaptations do away with some characters altogether or merge characters for the sake of budget, a less complicated storyline and so on.

I for one am more looking forward to reading the novels, but if this turns out to be generally OK, I don't care who they cast in what role, their skin color or what they eat for breakfast. Hell, they can cast non-Irish/Scottish people to play dwarves and put down-pointing ears on elves and I wouldn't mind. Just make it a decent, interesting, fun to watch series.

If it sucks ass or you don't like the creative liberties they've taken, don't watch it - stick to the games, books, anything else you like. Problem solved.

Yeah, I agree, but what have the Romans ever done for us? :P

The reason that isn't going to work is in reality it would be boring as hell.

If a group of girls were stuck on a deserted island they would immediately come together, organize, allocate responsibilities, allocate jobs. In an hour they'd have a fully functioning, peaceful civilization. There would be no war parties, cast offs, in fighting, or murdering.

Who the hell wants to drive their ass all the way to the theater and pay $6 to see that!?

I cannot remember if the book had girls or not. I read it ages ago, but I think there were.

Making a Witcher adaptation without Ciri in it? What kind of company would be silly enough to do that?

What book, LOTF?
