Nicole28: I was thinking, maybe before a real threat could materialize, we'd already have future gravity-mounted orbital lasers to decimate the asteroids to smithereens. But, I'd rather we work on terra-forming more planets. Perhaps, with greater space, I could own one of those futuristic house-thingy's with a bio-dome.
mechmouse: Blowing up an asteroid is a really bad idea.
You could use high energy lasers to heat one side of an asteroid, using the resultant thrust to redirect it away from earth.
Or use a chain of nukes in a series of explosions to push the asteroid onto a less extinction inducing route.
Another idea is to use thrusters mounted on much smaller asteroids and keep a bunch in earth orbit. Once a nasty block of ice is spotted heading earth ward, sling shot one off around the moon to intercept.
What superstitious nonsense! I'll stick with my healing crystals and Ouija board thank you.
