Hi all. I am playing through Myst again, and have completed two ages. Now I am ready for the Stoneship age. However, when I leave the planetarium with my three constellation symbols, I can't enter them in the pillars because the pillars aren't powered. They are supposed to be red and when I click on them they are supposed to then turn green. However my pillars do not have any color at all and when I try to click on them the colors change from red to green but the colors don't remain, and the symbol goes back to being brown. Every walkthrough I have looked at has the pillars powered red, yet none of them indicate how to turn them on. Does anyone remember how to do this? Many thanks.

This is a little strange. What do you mean they "do not have any color at all"? They're black or something? They should start out straight off from the beginning of the game as red. and turn/stay green just fine.

Edit: I just ran through my copy of it (I have realMyst, I dunno if that changes anything). It has to be a bug, I'm able to press the appropriate symbols and raise the ship immediately just fine right from the start without any hassles.

Well thanks. It may be a bug. Unfortunately I can't take a printscreen of it while the game is running. All of the symbols are the same color as the background; a tan color. When I highlight them with the cursor they turn red until I move the cursor away. If I click on them, they turn green but revert to tan again as soon as I move the cursor away.

Maybe you can still continue anyways if the button turns green, it's just covered in some sort of...tan...film. Can you click on the following buttons and see if the ship raises up? Make sure that these are the only "green" buttons before reverting to tan while the rest remain red/tan:
*****WARNING: SPOILERS*****

Just in case somebody doesn't want it spoiled and their eyes wander down here, I'll post them in riddle format.

1. Found on the flag of Canada
2. Thing that deceived Eve in the Garden of Eden
3. A famous British rock band, but in singular format rather than plural.

Dang, nothing still? My best guess is that this has to be a bug.
Have you tried starting a new game (without getting rid of your old save files) and seeing whether the buttons look alright? Again, you should be able to press them and raise the ship right from the get-go.
If not, assuming you bought the game on GOG, you might have to contact support and see if they can do anything for you.
...So which edition of Myst is this?

Ah, I never played the old ME. I went right from Myst to RealMyst to RealMyst: ME.

But Myst ME is know to have interface issues with newer operating systems.

You could try ScummVM?
