I was looking forward to some retro game playing. Unfortunately, cheap doesn't always mean good. It mans cheap.

Quake II Quad: worked fine, was fun and entertaining.
Quake II Quad: - well, i played it and saved the game (ESC > Game > Save.)
Next day, I try to load and it drops to a reporting screen and at bottom says "function pointers have moved". Nothing was moved. It won't start my game save, nor start the level "Entering the Mines". Waste of time, and money. I have the Quad boxed set. I couldn't find the DVDs and figues faster to buy it - again. Boy, was I wrong.

Is this because I refused to subscribe to GOGs ads in my inbox?

Don't Buy It!

I see after posting this that Gog doesn't even know what country I'm in. Another ass umption gone wrong. Sheesh!

Hey GOG! Where does the CEO of GOG live? You showed everyone where I live, now you show me where YOU live!

You could have an issue with Windows Defender blocking the application. Try this:

1) Open Windows Security
2) Under manage Ransomware Protection select Manage Ransomware Protection
3) Select Allow an app through Controlled folder access
4 ) Choose + Add an allowed app and use the drop down to view Recently blocked apps
5) You should now find the option to allow Quake II

I hope this helps.
Where is Q2 installed? Not somewhere in "Program Files" I hope? Windows is keeping it's thumb on those folders...

Always install your games to something like D:\Games, especially older ones which try and manipulate the contents of their own folders.

Quake 2 has a well known issue with the "function pointers have moved" error loading saved games, and has persisted since Quake II Ground Zero/Patch 3.20 released.

A source port may fix the issue but it can persist even then as no-one really knows what causes it despite the source code being released it is not a GOG release-only issue it can also effect the Steam version of the game and the retail releases when installed on a modern system.

It really started popping up since windows xp I think? hit the scene, but it also affects the linux versions of Quake II as well iirc.
