A true classic is back! The turn-based strategy gem titled M.U.L.E. from 1983 arrives on GOG.COM in all of its pixelated glory.

Developed by Danielle Bunten Berry and Ozark Softscape, this engaging turn-based strategy enabled four players to have fun at the same time. It is set on the fictional planet Irata (actually “Atari” spelled backward) and poses the gamers with a challenge in providing supply to the colonists.

To achieve success, you must not only compete against other players in gaining wealth and prosperity but also cooperate with them to ensure the survival of the colony. The key to winning the game is the acquisition and use of co-called Multiple Use Labor Elements, or M.U.L.E.s, to develop and harvest the planet’s resources.

To celebrate M.U.L.E.’s release we’re hosting a Weekly Sale of turn-based strategy games up to 90% off.

For the historically inclined, there's a good in-depth article about game and designer by enthusiast game historian Jimmy Maher:

MarkoH01: As it has been said, it seems to be an actual PC port.

timppu: PC port, as in the original 1985 "PC booter" release running in DOSBox or something?
Yes, it is. The my posting on page two.

M.U.L.E!!!

Ah the games played in the college dorm room with my roommate and floor mates. Dave, Mark. Tim? Circa 1987-1991 at the latest on my roommate's Atari 800.

Definitely more fun with people as the AI could be easily manipulated in the market.

For nostalgia sake I'll wish list it and wait for a sale but I did text Dave that it was out. (O7 Dave!)

I still remember the music.

Now I have to go hunt the Wumpus...it's in the contract.

DoomSooth: I'll probably end up buying this but it would have been better to release the C=64 version just for the music. :)
Thay's whaT I've been saying about the "Epyx" games being released on Steam. I play Jumpman. I like the C64 version. The PC with having to Cntrl/Alt/Del to exit the game, beeping that makes Apple 2e sound like music. ? Yikes!

I might have been naughty as a child and pick old games up to legally support them.

I'd prefer C64 games though...
Tsk! Another one of those pixel-art junk some indie thought was cool to develop!

Bring us real old games instead of this crass!

Yes, but you must agree that they really have gone the extra mile, incorparating CGA NTSC composite mode and made it look really old.

They are trying to make the characters like aliens but it is obvious that one of them is a TROLL...

Hello Zoidberg. Surely you speak in jest. This is a famous old game. This version dates back to 1983. GOG made it work in new machines. This is the kind of thing that many of us demand that GOG keeps doing. People can buy it a full price or wait for a sale. Is this an attempt at irony, sarcasm, blaming the heavens for the fragility of mankind, self-expression under drugs, or, let us brace ourselves, humour? Fellow GOGer, stand thy purpose!
If this is the DOS version, then the game page need changing. The DOS version is from 1985, not '83.
there was any important difference betwee Atari, C64 and later DOS booter versions? Apart of the graphics, of course.

Gameplay wise? I don't think so.

WTF?! Seriously GOG? You choose the "garbage" DOS-Version of M.U.L.E. and want 5.99€ for it?
On top of it you only offer a Package for Windows! What about the other platforms?
Also bring back the Goodie-Love. A Manual only is kinda lame.

However. Keep it! Not even for free will I see THIS version in my library!

See it this way. Only this version can be sold anymore (because C64 BIOS and on is copyrighted), so buy this one for legality, pirate the old C64 one. Quite simple.

Must I have a joystick to play it or can I play it with keyboard only?

C64 emulation has no legal issues, only the Amiga needs a licensed BIOS.
There are C64 games sold on Steam bundled with the emulator VICE, that's definitely the way I think GOG should've handled it too.
Its multiplayer? Can you pass a file for the next person to play on another computer?
