(Side note: In the SaGa 2 remake, mechs can use spells decently; you just need to find a special magical circuit board and equip (at least) one to give it a non-zero magic power stat.)
Also, I like ones that are simultaneously wearing multiple suits of armor, or are armed to the teeth with tons of cat claws.

I don't really associate magic with mechs at all, but that's probably just because of my limited exposure to jrpg type games. Then again, I'm nuts about 40K, and in 40K there is something called a machine spirit
Alternatively, enchanted mechs could work.
