I would imagine that it has been said before but this game should definitely make it's way onto this site. It's Star Trek so people are going to want to try it, play it... it's STTNG which is always popular, especially with Picard. It's a good game...it's a old game... it's a GOG....

It's about time they release the game on a site like this, so that it's easy to play and accessible to everyone. It can be a pain to get working but they ported Longest Journey to this site as well as Blade Runner... Surely they can handle STTNG A Final Unity...

It's a Classic adventure game,if it's not on here first, then maybe it will be on Steam first...
I imagine getting any new Star Trek games here would cost a small fortune for GOG but I'll gladly buy any that show up.

They got most of the Interplay ST games here, why wouldn't they be able to get the others?

Not really.

Final Unity, Borg, Klingon Honor Guard - I've been waiting for those game ever since I first made an account here. Still waiting... Unfortunately, titles that use a third party license like this are probably among the hardest ones for GOG to get.

A great game for everyone that likes the series.
For others, maybe a mediocre adventure game. But for fans, it's in the top 3 games based on Star Trek.

It works without any special tweaks on DOSbox, so it's not that difficult.

Also, "they" as in GOG didn't port anything. Longest Journey and Blade Runner work on several third party applications, most notably ScummVM.

What GOG does is that they negotiate through the legal jungle to get older games re-released digitally.

In the case of Star Trek, and A Final Unity especially, it can be a very tricky thing. It was developed by a company that no longer exists, (IIRC) it used some software technologies that may or may not need a separate licence, obviously there's the Star Trek licence, and then all of those real actors doing their roles, not to mention possible localisations which have different set of rights altogether.

But as they managed to get some Star Trek games here, it should be possible to get others as well.

Personally I would be most interested in those very early text adventures that haven't been sold since the 80s.

Don't forget:

Although a movie tie-in, it's the sequel to A Final Unity, and a First Person/Point and Click hybrid. Not quite at the same level as AFU, but surprisingly enjoyable.

I did forget thank you, I did vote for it though.... probably on a Star Trek voting binge :)

I would guess if they were as easy to get they would be here already. Probably different contracts with the TNG era of Trek, or different developers. Only the Interplay stuff is here iirc.

Legal shenanigans, probably. The Trek license went through many hands over the years, sometimes among several companies at once. I seem to remember that there was conflict between Activision and Simon & Schuster, which resulted in several of Activision's Trek games (Starfleet Command 3. Armada 2, Bridge Commander) being taken off the market. Which made those games rather rare and expensive to get these days.
