petitmal: 50% of 29.99...

how does that make 15.09?
avatar
InkPanther: How many decimal points would you require for it to be adequate and representative?
I demand at least seven decimal points of accuracy!

Seriously though, it always surprises me how often gog's discounts are made to appear less enticing by them being rounded down e.g. 49% instead of 50%.

Ooh, Xenonauts for free? Wasn't expecting that. Thanks!

Also I can recommend the HoMM bundle for sure.
This is looking like a really solid sale. Just picked up Owlboy collectors for 16 and a half bucks. Not bad at all. I get to save money but still support good devs.
As a side note: excellent job with Galaxy's layout for this sale and improving recommended games selection (aside from the random Gone Home.... fuck off with that meme shit). Just got some feedback from a friend that they're saying it looks very tempting to buy something and they just might.
Keep it up.
As an unrelated side note, though I don't care too much about the game Agony, I would appreciate if GoG found a way to get the uncensored version on here. I will happily stand by GoG and my loyalty to this place would rise if you guys take stances against censorship and I think many others would so the same.

This one's not a GOG exclusive -- Theme Hospital's available on Origin.

.....
+1 and thanks for the list ciemnogrodzianin!

Looking at that list, there's an insane number of hours of great gaming enjoyment at very little cost.
AWESOME freebies, mediocre sale. Is it this year's summer sale or something else? I think summer sales usually were at june/july but then I wouldn't expect another big sale so soon after that one.

Since I'm just about finishing Baldur's Gate marathon I guess I'll grab Siege of Dragonspear + something cheap to get Sunless Sea. Not bad deal.

AnonymousJCD: Also I can recommend the HoMM bundle for sure.
Sure but the same bundle was with -85% at previous sales.
Finally another big sale! So they don't add anymore games and we get handpicked highlights and Partner Collections instead? Rather boring and inefficient, imo. I'll probably scan everything once and then the sale is over for me. I loved those daily events they had when I started using GOG.

petitmal: 50% of 29.99...

how does that make 15.09?
I observed this oddity before and spent a while trying to figure out the GOG math involved. I figured it out. :) Basically, GOG's primary game pricing is in USD as it always has been, of which prices always end in either a 9 in the last digit. They then apply the discount (ie: 50%) to the USD price of the game, then they convert this discounted price to one's local currency. This results in prices that end in random digits which for marketing purposes looks ugly which is why stores usually always end prices either with the digit 9 or 5. (Personally I think that is silly, but it's how the entire business world works.) So, they round upwards the last digit to 9. This results in the advertised discounts being incorrect with respect to each country's local currencies. However the discount percentages are also always stated as integers (ie: 50%), so the few pennies of difference is not enough to drop the advertised discount down to 49%, so the actual discount is something like 49.98% or similar, but always gets shown as the integer 50%.

To replicate this, take the price of the game in USD, apply the stated discount to it. Convert it to your local currency, then bump the last digit up to 9 if it isn't already. Now subtract the offered sale price of the game from the regular retail price in your local currency ($29.99 - $15.09) to get the discount amount (14.90), and finally divide the discount by the retail price (14.90 / 29.99 = 0.49683227742580860286762254084695%). So the actual discount is 49.68322774...% off. Stated as an integer, this rounds off to 50%.

And that... is why the GOG discounts do not show up correctly for non-US customers during GOG sales.
